Renewal Corset Dress at Urban Outfitters

Renewal

The Urban Outfitters Renewal line takes vintage pieces and makes them into new, bespoke fashions from super modern to retro, and with varying appeal. This Corset dress is made from 50s corsets, creating an individual piece for each buyer.

While many may have preferred the original piece in its former state, for eighties fashion lovers, this dress is ideal. Very much in the style of Madonna when she went a little bit racy, this is not one for wallflowers.

It costs £125 from Urban Outfitters online and in some stores.

Gino Levi Montalcini Chichibio modernist telephone stand

Zanotta_stand

The name is something of a mouthful, but the Chichibio telephone stand by Gino Levi Montalcini is pure modernist simplicity.

It’s a functional item, every bit as useful today as it was back in 1932 – the year of its introduction. Except this stand has those sleek modernist lines and subtle curves, made from chrome-plated tubular steel, with layered plastic shelves for your phone book and phone in black or white.

The downside? Well, it’s got to be the whopping price. The Chichibio will set you back £823 – but let’s be honest, this is a design classic.

Anthony Savini “Vacancy” Wall Mural

15582448_00_bNew York filmmaker Anthony Savini has designed some striking photo-realistic wall murals, on the theme of the road less travelled.

Pictured here is the one entitled “Vacancy” which features a motel vacancy sign against a backdrop of a deserted road. The image conjures up ideas of road trips and classic Americana, and would look great used in a dining room furnished in the 1950s diner style.

Printed on heavy duty paper, the mural is supplied in 8 easy-to-hang panels and comes with full instructions and paste for hanging. It costs $200 (approximately £110) from Urban Outfitters.

Wallace Sacks Retro Rugs

Ha0602

Wall-to-wall carpeting is apparently making a comeback but most of us probably aren’t willing to give up our wood flooring just yet so rugs are the ideal compromise. Wallace Sacks is currently selling a range of retro rugs that are cheap enough to buy on impulse to give your floor a quick makeover.

Costing just £65, there is a choice of two designs, the curved stripes of the “Hairpin” or the geometric squares of the “Club”. The Hairpin design is available in red with black stripes or black with white and grey stripes, whilst the Club comes in shades of grey, sand, red and coffee.

Visit the Wallace Sacks website to view the whole collection.

Marimekko tray table

Marimekko_table

Everyone needs an occasional table, but when they look as good as the Marimekko tray table, you might want to use the tables more than just the odd occasion.

The tray is sat on a stainless steel stand, collapsible when you don’t require it, while the top is made from laminated plywood – connecting to the legs when needed, but able to be used separately if required.

And there are plenty of designs to choose from – effectively the pick of Marimekko’s classic designs from the past 50 years. For a tray and stand, expect to pay around £190.
