Made from 100 per cent cotton and with a quilted lining to keep you warm, it sells for £185.

Designer vs high street: Tom Dixon Copper shade and the Asda Cilla pendant light

Asda_shade

OK, we’re not for a minute claiming that the Asda Cilla pendant light is anywhere near the same league as the Tom Dixon Copper shade. But if you want the look for very little cash, the supermarket variation might be worth a look.

We have featured the Dixon shade (left) in the past, it’s one of our favourites and if you want a 70s-style shade with a classy finish, this metalised copper mirror pendant is hard to beat and a solid investment. You can pick one up for around £155.

But if your budget is super-tight, the Asda Cilla pendant light might be worth a look. It’s actually steel with a ‘copper look’ and easy to fit on any standard fitting. The price? An extremely cheap £15.

Charlston Side Table

Charlstontable

Laura Ashley is far from being a hotbed of mid-century design, but they do occasionally have a surprise gem. One such item would be the Charlston Side Table which takes its style from further back, looking for inspiration from the 1920s.

It comprises of two mirrored drawers on art deco style curved legs. The piece is given an interesting twist as the table legs are made from solid birch, which contrasts with the sleek mirrored surfaces. It costs £225 and there is a matching chest of drawers available if you are looking for more storage space.

Full details can be found on the Laura Ashley website.

Woodstock Wallet

WoodstockwalletWhen those 200,000 gathered at Woodstock nearly 40 years ago, what did they imagine their legacy would be? Peace and love probably. Presumably they wouldn’t have imagined the Woodstock Wallet.

Produced by Mustard Accessories who do a range of wallets many with a retro theme, the Woodstock wallet is a faded brown leather wallet with a design taken from a festival poster. Other wallets in the range (which may cross the taste border in the novelty category) include Kes, Travis Bickle and  John Lenon.

Available to buy online from Ark Clothing, priced £20.  The ideal gift for the hippie who has sold out!
