Alstermo Bruk Atlas – vintage-style luggage range

Alstermo

When I think of luggage with retro looks, I always think first of Globetrotter. But there are other options – like the Alstermo Bruk Atlas range.

Alstermo Bruk has been making and selling luggage with its patented Amo-fiber (for strength without weight) since 1895, with the Alstermo Atlas range offering those vintage looks, handmade production, a wood frame, numbered brass plate, cloth lining and leather trimming.

Take your pick from a variety of colours ranging from the conservative to the bold, with cases ranging from an attaché through to a large suitcase with wheels. Prices start at 325 Euros per piece – expensive, but likely to be the only luggage you’ll never need to buy.

Rockett St George Retro Wallpaper

Coolwallpaper1 Rockett St George are currently selling two retro patterned wallpapers.

There is a pink, purple and silver design that make me think of disco. Then there is this green version, which is a fresher option.

Illustrated is their claim that you can even use it to decorate your bath! I’m not entirely convinced by thishere use of it and think it would be better kept to one wall or panel.

Regardless of where you hanging it, it costs £35 per roll and can be ordered from the Rockett St George website.

Modern Birdhouse – based on the mid-century Case Study House designs

Ralph

If you want to know about the mid-century Case Study Houses in the US, you need to buy Taschen’s book on the subject. And if you want one for your garden, you can now buy a Modern Birdhouse – based on the designs on the Case Study Houses.

The Case Study House program ran between 1945-66, producing 36 prototype homes that could be easily and cheaply constructed.  The program was led by John Entenza and featured some of architecture’s greatest talents, including Richard Neutra, Charles and Ray Eames, and Eero Saarinen.

The birdhouses here are based on the work of J.R. Davidson, Richard Neutra, and Ralph Rapson (above), made of SmartWood oiled teak, with floating aluminum roofs and a detachable posts. They are shipped pre-assembled (apart from the post) and sell for $195 (around £100).
