Sam Hughes’ Vintage Fabric Lamps

SamhugheslampIf you like the Flavia Del Pra lamps from Bodie and Fou, but didn’t like the £300 plus price tag, you may find Sam Hughes’ Vintage Fabric Lamps an acceptable alternative.

The lamp bases are simple affairs, made from chrome and laquered ash, but it is with the shades that the designer excels. Handmade from vintage fabrics, sourced at markets and vintage shops, no two shades are identical and there are only a limited number of each pattern available. Pictured here is the Multicoloured Daisies but there are a wide range of floral patterns to choose from and stock changes according to what material Sam Hughes has discovered.

The shade and base bought together costs £37 or you can buy a shade on its own for £20. Visit Sam Hughes’ website to see the current stock.

Marilyn Bed

MarilynbedWhen it comes to retro furniture, we’ve featured loads of chairs and tons of tables, but very few beds. That’s probably because bed designs don’t vary that much, but Italian company Flou have a bed that is worthy of our attention in the Marilyn Bed.

As the name suggestions, it was designed with a 1950s starlet in mind. Its headboard is curvaceous and looks most dramatic covered in lipstick red leather, although other colours and materials are available.

Aram are selling the bed in the UK via their website, where you’ll need to enquire about the price.

Authentic 50s style womenswear from Marina Retro

235While I adore some modern clothes which take a touch of inspiration from retro styles, there’s nothing quite like an authentic vintage inspired outfit.

Marina Retro make each of their 50s styled blouses to order from original patterns. Available in a variety of colours, prints and shapes these blouses really look the real deal. The shop also makes a range of fifties circle skirts to complete the look.

This one costs a very reasonable £25, though it’ll take 4 weeks to reach you since they’re made to order.

Oversized retro sunglasses by Tom Ford

Index_2Okay, so the weather’s pretty miserable outside, and its definitely not Summer yet, but there’s no reason not to think ahead where shopping’s concerned, eh?

You’ll need time to save up for a perfect pair of designer sunglasses, and this pair from Tom Ford might just be the perfect retro pair for you. With thick rims reminiscent of Jackie O and a distinctly sixties-inspired shape, they’re a great statement pair.

You can buy these Bianca sunglasses from Net-a-Porter for £199.

Adidas launches Daley Thompson-inspired Great Britain hoody

Adidas_daley In the UK at least, there seemed to be a golden era of athletics in the 80s, with just about all the leading competitors (not just British ones) being household names. Even with an Olympics coming up, I still can’t name any of the current British team – but I do remember the stars of my childhood, headed up by legendary decathlete Daley Thompson.

And so does Adidas it seems, with the launch of its Great Britain hoody. It’s based on the gear worn by Thompson in his 80s heyday, complete with Union Jack logo and hood, as well as all the period Adidas detailing.

Personally, I don’t think I could pull it off. But if you’re on the look out for some 80s nostalgia for your wardrobe, you can pick up one of these for £60.
