Le Tramac Bauhaus Furniture

Bauhaustable Le Tramac sells antique and vintage furniture that has been reconditioned and hand-painted or reupholstered in unusual ways. Putting aside the over-the-top spiel on the website which describes their creations as “mischievous” and “ingenious”, their furniture pretty good.

Of particular note is their Bauhaus collection, inspired by the design movement of the same name. The pieces in the collection include a side table, chairs, shelving and a mirror. Each piece is designed around the principles of simple lines and primary colours. These pieces don’t come cheaply – the table pictured here costs £370.

To view the full collection, visit the Le Tramac website or if you in the area, they have a showroom in Soho.

Calfee Bamboo Bike – old-style eco-friendly racer

Calfee

Simply using a bike is eco-friendly enough, but the Calfee Bamboo Bike takes things a step further – as the name suggests, it is made out of bamboo.

Don’t worry, it’s still solid enough for everyday use or racing. Each frame is built to order (which makes it unique), with the bamboo heat-treated and smoke to prevent splitting. A coating of Tung oil then seals it up and gives it a distinctly vintage look. Obviously some things aren’t made of bamboo (everything buy the frame in fact), but you get the point.

Going green isn’t cheap though – these retail from £950 from the company’s dealers – which includes the newly-opened Eco in London.

Vintage bridalwear and accessories from Cherished vintage bridal salon

Pic1Vintage has a special place in my heart because of the story that goes with every piece, so vintage wedding gowns and accessories are even more apt.

Cherished Vintage bridal salon has a huge range of vintage wedding gear, from 1940s gowns to fantastic sixties accessories. These gloves by Hansen would make a perfect retro wedding outfit, or even just some sassy evening outfit for those of us not getting hitched.

They cost just $19 in perfect condition.

Newgate Covent Garden alarm clock

Newgate_covent
We mentioned the Art Deco-style Newgate Quad bedside clock the other day. If that’s a little too stylised, how about something even more traditional – the Newgate Covent Garden alarm clock.

It’s available in various sizes and finishes, with this black version being the largest at 9.8 x 7.5 x 3 inches. It has an ‘aged’ paper dial, steel surround and glass face, as well as those vintage-style numbers and detailing, along with a traditional (and loud) ring.

One thing that isn’t traditional is the power source – it runs off a battery rather than a wind-up. Yours for £20.

Roche Bobois space age Cute Cut Table

Cute_table

I’m guessing its not cheap, but there’s no denying that the Cute Cut Table from Roche Bobois would fit effortlessly into a 70s-style space age pad.

There’s actually two in the range, with the one above being the larger with two flat areas, while a smaller version comes in a nice retro mustard colour and with just one flat surface. Both are designed by Cedric Ragot and are made from polyester resin and fibre glass, with a lacquered finish.

In fact, the only thing we don’t know is the price. You’ll have to drop into one of the Manchester or London shops if you’re in the UK or order one of the catalogues, which you can do online for 10 Euros.

Absolute Zero Degrees Net and Ball wallpaper – an iconic 1950s design returns

Southbank_paper

The Absolute Zero Degrees Net and Ball wallpaper might be familiar design – but it’s fame actually comes from the floor rather than the wall.

It uses the design of the original 1951 carpet from the Royal Festival Hall, the work of original architects Peter Moro and Leslie Martin and apparently the visual representation of sound – with the addition of the ball purely for effect.

The wallpaper has been commissioned by the Southbank Centre and is only available to buy from the Southbank Centre Shops from April 2008 in the olive and grey colourway pictured. It retails for £50 per roll.
