Retro hats and headgear from Chapeau Claudette

Image1xl

Looking for a little touch of vintage glamour, without the shop trawling and probable price tag? Then look no further than Chapeau Claudette.

Available at ASOS, the brand makes a selection of fabulous vintage inspired hats and net veils which are perfect for pitching up the glamour stakes, creating a air of the Hollywood starlet.

My favourite, the Mini Heart Clip (pictured) retails at a fantastic price of £18 and looks great.

Diamond-covered Hot Wheels car – yours for £71,000

Diamond_hotwheels

The Hot Wheels brand first hit the toy shops in 1968, with around four billion cars sold in the 40 years since. But none quite like this diamond-covered Hot Wheels car, designed by Jason of Beverly Hills.

It’s made from 18-carat white gold, has rubies for tail lights and a covering of 40 white diamonds. This 1:64 scale car has an estimated value of just over £71,000.

Fancy it? Well, it’s going up for auction later this year, with all proceeds going to the charity Big Brothers Big Sisters. Might be as well to start saving now.

Lego Brick MP3 player from Homade

Lego_mp3

Bored of the iPod? How about replacing it with a real design classic – this Lego Brick MP3 player from Homade.

It’s not an official Lego product, but you’ll be hard pushed to tell the difference between this and a standard Lego brick. Look closely and you’ll notice that all the bumps have a function (play, rewind, pause etc). And each player also has a rechargeable battery, but you’ll have to provide your own storage, which is via microSD card.

If you want one, they retail for $46, which is around £23.

Habitat Hamilton 70s-style office chair

Habitat_hamilton
Interesting to see Habitat taking inspiration from its heyday with the Hamilton office chair.

It’s very much a 70s look, although that design probably took inspiration from the modernist era. In fact, I used to have a set of vintage dining chairs in a very similar design, one of which I did use as an office chair! Essentially, it’s just a powder-coated metal tube frame, with brown leather for support on the seat and back. But that simplicity just adds to the stylish look. After all, who needs fuss?

Yours for £99.

Atomium space age suspension light

Atomium_light

Here at Retro To Go, we’re not just interesting in old things, we’re just as much interested in new items that are inspired by the past – which includes this Atomium ceiling suspension light.

Very much influenced by the late 60s/early 70s space age style, the Atomium is a new piece, designed by Hopf & Wortmann for Italian lighting firm Kundalini. And it certainly has impact – a moulded and rotating polyethylene light with six light sources, each one attached to a steel coil spring.

Not cheap at £310, but guaranteed to set off any room.
