Deco-style dressing table from Alexander and Pearl

Deco-mirrored-venetian-dressing-table-2809-p
This dressing table from Alexander and Pearl isn't the first we've featured that takes inspiration from the Art Deco style and I'm sure it won't be the last. The period works really well for a piece of furniture that's meant to evoke glamour.

This piece certainly is glamorous, with its mirrored finish and curved shape. The mirror folds down flat, giving it a practical use as a table too when not required for make-up touch-ups. There are two concealed drawers too, perfect for stashing away beauty secrets.

The table costs £625 with the matching stool costing an additional £275.

Manhattan Dining Collection from Marks and Spencer

Manhattan

A striking contrast to some of their recent floral designs, Marks and Spencer are offering this Art Deco influenced Manhattan dining collection.

The designs are all straight lines and streamlined stripes and all the glamour you'd associate with that period. The shape of the teapot and the milk jug especially look to the more angular modernist style. Even better for a collection with such striking looks is that it's all dishwasher and microwave safe.

Some items in the collection seem to be going out of stock, so grab what you can now. Prices start at £6 for a bowl.

Mai Tai Zombie by Jonny Hannah

Mai tai

It's not the first time we've featured the striking work of British artist Jonny Hannah. His most recent exhibition Burning Love is a heady wall-to-wall mix of jazz, blues & retro Americana with a twist of wit and wickedness that has become his trademark.

Mai Tai Zombie is a unique painting on a cut out board, resembling the signs that adorned the original tiki bars that swept across America in the 1930s. An appropriate finishing touch for those lucky enough to have a bar at home, or those who just wish they did.

Mai Tai Zombie is £95 from Castor & Pollux - you can catch Jonny Hannah's Burning Love exhibition at their Brighton gallery until 13th March.

“Why Go Home So Soon?” Collection

4889_1432_240_240_FFFFFF_0
The “Why Go Home So Soon?” Collection is another range developed from the artwork in the London Transport Museum Poster Collection.

The items available are the usual sort of thing that the London Transport Museum sells – mugs, travelcard holders, coasters and placemats – but the designs are really rather lovely. They date back to 1938 from a series of posters encouraging commuters to dine out, under the slogan “Why Go Home So Soon?” Marc Fernand Severin did the original illustrations, which are in a typical 1930s style.

A set of four coasters costs £12.99. Visit the London Transport Museum website to see the full collection.

Re-issue of 1930s game Laripino

LARIPINO
If you want to buy your kids a game that doesn't require an endless supply of AA batteries, you may want to look at this re-issue of the game Laripino.

The game dates back to the 1930s when it was manufactured by Spear's and operates on a very simple concept: players roll marbles down the helter skelter and are awarded different amounts of points depending on the hole the marbles land in. It's as straight forward as that. While this re-issue makes use of the original packaging to add to its nostalgic charm, whether your kids go for it or not is a different matter…

The game costs £8.
