Charlatans by Darling Clementine for nineteenseventythree

Dc diva
Charlatans is a new range of cards from two of our favourites, Darling Clementine designing for nineteenseventythree.

The card range includes 16 new designs that are packed full of retro charm. Each card focuses on a different dubious character, that you could imagine seeing loitering around in prohibition-era America. Pictured is the diva, while there is also the likes of the poet, the cabaret girl, the gypsy and the sailor. There's even a card called Minelli. The illustrations enhance the 1920s/30s feel of the characters.

Perfect for the loveable rogues in your life, each card costs £2.

Graham and Green Pineapple Lamp Base

Screen shot 2011-01-16 at 22.04.27

No home with kitsch ambitions can be without an ornamental pineapple of some sort. Ever since Columbus bought them back from the West Indies, the pineapple has been a symbol of all things exotic and the luxurious Polynesian-themed tiki bars that popped up all over the US during the 1930s wouldn't be the same without being adorned by the fruit.

This Pineapple lamp base from Graham and Green in antiqued silver is stylish modern take on the mid 20th century tiki exotica trend, meaning you can save the real pineapples for garnishing all those rum drinks.

The lamp is £95 from Graham & Green. Find out more from the website.

What Every Woman Ought to Know – Lifestyle Lessons from the 1930s

823829_large
What Every Woman Ought to Know – Lifestyle Lessons from the 1930s” is a collection of cuttings taken from the Daily Mail during that decade, offering advice on beauty, fashion, cookery and home-making.

As you might expect, some of the articles seem incredibly dated now and the worldview it offers is extremely limited (although it might be said that The Daily Mail hasn’t changed much), but there are still some interesting snippets in here that make it worth a read.

The book is currently on offer at Past Times, where it is being sold at half price at £7.49.

Josef Frank world map cushion

Josef frank mapHere's something a little unusual for your home. A cushion featuring a world map designed by Josef Frank

Frank was one of the founders of the Vienna School of Architecture before emigrating to Sweden in 1933 where he became one of the most prestigious designers in the company Svenskt Tenn. It's Svenskt Tenn who have produced this cushion, based on one of his design from 1939. With no borders between the countries, it's a reaction to the political situation at the time and the fact Frank had fled Nazism in Austria. Using simple black and white, the design is a striking statement.

The cushion is handprinted and costs 890 SEK, which works out to be roughly £80.
