eBay watch: Vintage Bang & Olufsen Beolit 609FM radio

Beolit

If the vintage looks of the Roberts Radio appeals, you might well like the look of this authentic classic that's now on eBay – the Bang & Olufsen Beolit 609FM radio.

The seller claims it is from the 70s, but it looks like a 60s design to us. Either way, it's got the look, no matter when it was made. We've not seen a better looking vintage radio in a long time.

The radio is in fully working condition, has FM, MW, LW and SW bands, individual control for bass and treble, two aerials and has a 'clean' battery compartment (no damage that is). All of that right now for just £16.63.

Magic Roundabout’s Dougal and the Blue Cat movie gets first-time DVD release

Dougal

One of the strangest kid's movie ever made is heading to DVD for the very first time – Magic Roundabout's Dougal and the Blue Cat movie, which dates from 1972.

Like the TV shows, it was created in France by Serge Danot, then re-written in English by Eric Thompson, with Thompson himself did all the voices, except one – the creepy Madame Blue, which was voiced by Fenella Fielding. The story? Well, let's just say a Blue Cat called Buxton causes havoc in the Magic Garden, the friends ending up in a dungeon, while Dougal ends up on the Moon. Can he save the day?

You probably know the answer to that. This newly-restored version is out via Second Sight, packed with extras including interviews with Emma Thompson, Sophie Thompson, Fenella Fielding and Mark Kermode plus the French version, complete with English subtitles and a stills gallery. Amazon is doing pre-orders ahead of the 1st November release, the price is £9.93.

eBay watch: 1970s pulldown eyeball pendant light

Dropdown

Another superb vintage light on eBay – this time a 1970s pulldown eyeball pendant light.

No maker or designer is accredited, but it is presumed to be from the 1970s, as well as being a Danish design from the era. For your money, you get a 360 degree rotating shade and drop-fall cord, the shade made of chrome plated steel for serious, eye-catching appeal.

According to the seller, it's in 'excellent condition and full working order', with a 'buy it now' price of £195 being asked (although you can also make an offer). The table obviously isn't included.

eBay watch: 1970s modernist-style chandelier

Modernist

A very interesting design – and this 1970s modernist-style chandelier isn't too expensive to pick up.

According to the seller, the fitting (one of three available) was fitted new in the late 70s, but was taken out of the building recently when it underwent a refit. Maybe they just wanted to save some money, as the fitting uses 22 bulbs, all 40w 'golf ball' lights. You'll need a high ceiling too, with the drop from top of the chrome to the bottom bulb is 84cm.

But it is a feature light, very of its era and at £160, cheaper than most reissued designer light fittings.

For sale: Early 70s-designed house at Seasalter, Whitstable, Kent

Seasalter1

On the face of it quite dull, but dig deeper and you'll find this early 70s-designed house at Seasalter, Whitstable, Kent quite interesting if you appreciate the era.

No architect is credited, but even so, it obviously had some serious thought going into it. The four-bedroomed house is organised around a central courtyard that allows light to flood the interior, and together with the use of full-height windows, managed to create a sense of continuity between the house and its exterior. Some original features remain, including the pine panelling and exposed brick work, while many fittings have a 'period' look, original or not. But there's also been a 'sympathetic' renovation.

1950s-style Ashcott Monk shoe by Clarks

Ashcott

It's got a 1950s twist, but the Ashcott Monk shoe by Clarks actually dates back to the 1970s.

I'm guessing the shoe was brought out to take advantage of the 70s rock 'n' roll revival, as this new issue is apparently out 'to coincide with this season's rockabilly trend'. So if you want a 50s look with a 70s twist, here it is.

Made of black suede, with a monk strap, silver-effect buckle, a chequered trim and classic crepe sole, it's yours for £69.
