For sale: 1930s six-bedroomed Art deco house in Luton, Bedfordshire

Luton1

We seem to be going all Art Deco on the property front this week. Not by choice, we just keep encountering such properties online, including this very eye-catching 1930s six-bedroomed Art deco house in Luton, Bedfordshire.

It was originally designed  and exhibited at the Daily Mail Home Exhibition at Earls Court in 1934, subsequently built in 1935, along with only two others, one in Hendon and one in Bognor. In more recent years (2001 to be precise), the house was featured on old BBC homes show Home Front, with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Diarmid Gavin reworking the interior and garden. But don't let that put you off.

For sale: 1930s Art Deco apartment in Harrogate, Yorkshire

Harro1

I spent part of the weekend in Harrogate, checking out the sites and the property market, which currently includes this 1930s Art Deco apartment in Harrogate, Yorkshire.

Sat on the main Leeds Road into Harrogate, this was once a large Art Deco house until a developer decided two apartments were better than once house. Can't say I agree with the thinking, but at least said developer has maintained the classic exterior, the biggest selling point in my book.

Metropolis Deco plant stand

Metropolis

If you've spent days lovingly nurturing your house plants, they surely deserve to be presented in style. Take a look at this Metropolis plant stand, inspired by 1930s Art Deco.

Although the natural world of plants doesn't offer the most obvious link to the Machine Age, the design references the slick skyscrapers of the period. The tall metallic frame is topped off with black granite shelves and would be the finishing touch for a glamorous interior. You'll just have to make sure you don't ruin the look by using a plastic plant pot!

The stand costs £155.

You can pre-order now at the John Lewis website, priced at £1,200. A matching stool is also available – £299 will secure that.
