Pop Art cushions from Dwell

Pop cushions

These Pop Art cushions from Dwell are a simple way to get some of the art movement's impact for your home.

There are three different styles available, all clearly influenced by the comic style of Roy Lichtenstein. One illustrates the Lichtenstein style distressed heroine, another cushion shows the classic hero and finally the last cushion features the typical action moment. Each design is printed onto a cotton fabric cover. However, if you really like the look of these pieces, each design is also available printed on canvas ready for display.

The cushions cost £24.95 each, while the canvases cost £59.

Vintage-style Brighton Line prints by Sean Sims

Bright1

We have featured Sean Sims in the past, but these new vintage-style Brighton Line prints are more than worth a mention.

They are illustrative travel posters, not unlike the kind of thing you would see from the '40s to the '70s, but particularly in the 1960s. It's an ongoing series, but there are a number available from launch – two are pictured above, two more over the page and more at the retail site.

All are A2 giclee editions, and are currently on sale for £50 each. They will also be on show throughout the Saturdays and Sundays in May (11am – 6pm) at the Yarn & Glue Open House as part of the Brighton Festival.

These things are getting more collectable by the year, original 1972 Munich Olympics posters we mean, not least this one by British pop artist Allen Jones.

28 posters were produced for the Munich Art Series by a variety of noted artists at the time, but the Allen Jones poster was the only one that featured the Olympic rings.

It's from as run of 2000, signed 'in the plate' and printed on good quality paper. As a future collectable, it's worth a look, as well as being an eye-catching piece of wall art in its own right. £5.19 is the current bid price.

Beauty Is In The Street book – A Visual Record of the May ’68 Paris Uprising

Beaut

There was a hugely-expensive, extremely limited edition book about the subject a couple of years back. Thankfully, the Beauty Is In The Street book, also known as A Visual Record of the May '68 Paris Uprising, is more affordable and plentiful.

The subject matter is the May 1968 student protests in Paris, which also spread to factories and other workplaces to create a general strike that brought the country to a standstill. Among the students were a group called the Atelier Populaire, which produced hundreds of posters to encourage the protestors and to report on police brutality.

This book reproduces over 200 of these iconic posters, as well as featuring  a number of photographs, many published for the first time and translations of first-hand accounts of the clashes between the students, strikers and the police. 272 pages and published by Four Corners Books, this hardback book is available for £25.

Le Ciel and La Mer prints by Double Merrick

Double merrick

1930s travel posters are always a classic look but from Dave Thompson's prints to this Habitat cushion, they seem to be having something of a revival recently. Add to that mini list these Le Ciel and La Mer prints by Double Merrick

Double Merrick is the work of Merrick Angle, a British designer who is based in France. That probably explains the French that's been used on these prints showing a sailing boat and an aeroplane which both definitely hark back to a more glamorous age of travel.

A4 sized, the prints cost 25 euros each or you can buy the pair for 42 euros.
