Red ceramic kitchen clock

Laura ashley clock

This red ceramic kitchen clock is another retro design courtesy of the high street.

With its asymmetric frame, and striking red finish, it's a design that looks towards the 1950s. Couple that with the minimal clock-face markings and it definitely appears as if it was designed quite a few years before 2011.

A high street price for it too: the clock costs £30.

Louise Body “Paper Tiles” Wallpaper

Mixedfolkfullsize1
If you hanker for authentic victorian tiles but lack the time and inclination to install them, this Paper Tiles wallpaper from British designer Louise Body could be the solution.

A clever trompe l'oeil print creates the effect of vintage aged tiles without the hassle of cement and grout and the paper used is tough enough to be used in place of ceramics. The design incorporates original Victorian tiles but with the addition of hand-drawn flowers for a contemporary twist.

The tiles in the design measure 17.5 x 17.5cm

This design is one of ten, all printed on to hard-wearing paper sourced from managed forests. The paper costs £20 a metre.

Cole of London’s London mugs

Cole of London

More products celebrating London, though Cole of London's London mugs are a quirky take on the trend.

There are four mugs available, each featuring a different London landmark – pick from Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London or the Houses of Parliament. Each place is depicted in a sketchy style which contrasts to the official looking title and facts that are listed on the side of each mug. It's a style that's reminiscent of the work of Royston Cooper, who produced many travel advertisements in the 50s and 60s – and that's a very good thing indeed.

Made from bone china, the mugs cost £10 each.

Heritage teapot from Marks and Spencer

Heritage teapot

If you like to celebrate tradition while indulging in your cuppa, this Heritage teapot from Marks and Spencer could be the thing for you.

It's made from English earthenware and is decorated with the Union Jack on its side and lid. Add to that the description Land of Hope and Glory that's emblazoned across the side of the teapot and you've got a pretty patriotic accompaniment to your tea.

If you want to carry the look further, you can buy mugs and plates in the same range.

The teapot costs £29.50.

Linea lidded ceramic pot

Linea pot
Although it's a contemporary design, Linea's lidded ceramic pot has something of the look of studio pottery of the 60s and 70s.

Sadly, I don't think it is hand-made but the stoneware pot does have a rather attractive raised diamond design. Add to that its purple glaze and you've got a piece that looks more unusual than its high street origin may suggest.

A high street price attached to it too: the pot costs £30.
