Midcentury-style dining table and chairs at Dooley’s Furniture

Dool

Functional, as well as offering a nod to the 1950s. that's this midcentury-style dining table and chairs at Dooley's Furniture.

Th is modern design is fairly timeless, although it is obviously inspired by midcentury Scandinavian pieces, offering up that retro twist without throwing it in your face. All made of oak, you get the table with that slanted legs and lacquered finish, plus the chairs, with the same finish, but with curved backs and slightly angled seats.

The entire set is yours for £825. You can also buy the table and chairs separately.

eBay watch: Pair of 1970s wicker Peacock chairs

Pea

Watch any TV drama of the late '60s or 1970s and some hipster's flat will almost certainly have one of these in the corner. Unfortunately, wicker hasn't exactly has a good time of it since, although you can see this pair of 1970s wicker Peacock chairs looking good in the right place.

Very distinctive with their high back, they'll probably look good in a 70s-styled flat or some sort of conservatory or summer house. Note that there is some minor wear (see the site listing for full detail and imaging), but nothing major and nothing that takes too much away from the design.

If you fancy them, the two chairs are ours for £30.

Vitra DSW Chairs in a new range of colours

Eamesdsw_m
We featured the Vitra DSW Chair by Charles & Ray Eames when it was re-issued back in 2007, but are mentioning them again as they are now available in a new selection of colours.

The chair itself is based on a 1950 design and now they come in a colour palette that reflects that era. Colours include mustard, cream, stone white, ocean, poppy red and mauve grey, along with the classic black and white options. Like the 2007 versions, these chairs are made from polypropylene, which is kinder to the environment than the original fibreglass.

The chairs are available from Heal’s, priced £302 each.

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury Hans Olsen dining table and chairs for Frem Rojle

Frem

When I'm looking for interesting eBay finds, I try and look for items that have low starting prices, but occasionally, quality wins out at a high price. Which brings me to this 1950s midcentury Hans Olsen dining table and chairs for Frem Rojle.

It's timeless. Designed in 1953 (with this one dating from around 1960), this Scandinavian design would fit effortlessly into most modern-day homes. Clever design too, with the chairs integrating perfectly into the the table to save space, while a quick fold turns the table into a six-seater,

Made of Burmese oak and described as being in 'very good original condition', it's up at £895.

eBay watch: Eero Saarinen-designed Knoll Tulip dining table and four chairs

Arkana

Big thanks to Matthew for spotting a real gem on eBay – this Eero Saarinen-designed Knoll Tulip dining table and four chairs.

Designed as 'as an exercise in clarifying form', the design of the Tulip table and chairs is still ahead of its time, over 50 years since its debut. This is an authentic reissue, with this particular set issued by Knoll to Cube (Manchester's architecture and design gallery) to commemorate its opening in 1998. The item was later acquired by Graeme Russell, its founding director, who is selling it now.

According to the seller, the table (diameter 920mm) is in good condition with a few scratches, while two of the four chairs are in need of some repair, but are perfectly functional. So not perfect, but at the current auction price of £500 for the set, well worth a bid.
