eBay watch: 1970s Bodet BT659 flip clock

Bodet

Not one of the classic Cifra flip clocks by Gino Valle, but this Bodet BT659 flip clock out of France is from a similar era – and looks every bit as stylish.

Unlike a lot of these types of clock that appear on eBay, this 1970s design is an independent clock rather than a 'slave' clock. In other words, it just works without needing as master unit or additional parts. That's a big plus point. Just three batteries and you are away. According to the seller, this makes it 'very, very rare' and as such, a sought-after piece.

Aside from that, the clock is 'in used but very good above-average condition' with 'only marginal signs of wear'. Of course, it's in working condition too. A few bids already in, but right now, the bidding is still at £21.

Areaware Alarm Dock by Jonas Damon – turn your iPhone into a flip-style clock

Areaware

Interesting idea that mixes the past with the present – the Areaware Alarm Dock.

It looks like a vintage-style flip (or early digital) clock, but it's actually a beech wood dock for an iPhone. Slide your phone into the front and it becomes a clock, charging overnight too. That clock display comes from a flip clock app.

Available to pre-order directly, $39.99 is the price.

Crowel App from the Design Museum

App_newsletter-1
As part of the Wim Crouwel exhibition (which we’ve mentioned before), the Design Museum commissioned the Crouwelclock App.

The App is a graphic alarm clock that also features three personal messages from the designer. So you can wake up to the sound of Crouwel wishing you ‘a nice and well designed day’, reminding you to ‘keep your grid straight today’ or that ‘a grid today keeps the doctor away’.

It costs 59p from the i-tunes store.

eBay watch: 1970s Richter electric clock

Richter

Interesting piece of late 60s or more likely, early 70s design out of (West) Germany in the form of this Richter electric clock.

Love the subtle space age looks, not least with the circular body and contrasting stand, with the stainless steel face looking a little more traditional, but still offering up a good amount of style.

According to the seller, it's in 'almost immaculate' condition, with a 'very good quality' movement, right down to the sweeping hand for an animated passing of time.

Right now, it's at £24.95.

Karlsson Little Big Time Arrow Target Clock

Pop

A bit of functional, 1960s-style pop art for your wall in the form of the Karlsson Little Big Time Arrow Target Clock.

The design, as the name suggests, features both a target and arrows, symbolic of 1960s pop art and illustration, but with a very practical purpose – the arrows tell the time, the target is the face. Well, sort of.

Available online, it sells for £31.99.

Braun ABK 31 modernist-inspired wall clock

Braun

A stunning design from the 1980s, but this Braun ABK 31 wall clock probably owes more to the 1930s for inspiration.

It's a stunning, modernist-inspired wall clock, produced in 1985, the work of Dietrich Lubs under the design directorship of Dieter Rams. In terms of detail, it has an off-white face, glossy red bezel and a matt grey body, with the numerals adding that modernist touch.

Battery powered and in 'excellent' condition, the current price is £50.
