eBay watch: Original 1950s George Nelson sunburst wall clock by Howard Miller

Nelson_clock

A real gem has landed on eBay, this original 1950s George Nelson wall clock by Howard Miller. But there is one small problem with it.

However, yes, an original, not a reproduction. It's down as model 2022, a sunburst-style clock with 12 tapered rosewood rays, plus a drum-shaped metal dial with screw-on back plate. The entire thing has an overall diameter of 18.5 inches.

Condition is described as 'excellent', although the hands and mechanism 'appear to have been replaced' and don't seem to work. A clock expert should be able to sort it out. Anyway, right now it's just 99p – so one to keep an eye on.

Karlsson Retro Digital Wall Clock

 Retro-digital-square-17-p
Karlsson's clocks are a regular feature on these pages thanks to their retro styling and this new addition to the range is no exception.

The Retro Digital Wall Clock has striking white and yellow dials on a contrasting black background which give it a nice seventies aesthetic set off by the  walnut surround and glass face.

The clock is 25cm square and takes a 1AA battery.

It costs £44.99 and you can buy it from Soulful Toaster.

eBay watch: 1970s Heath digital super clock

Heath

An interesting design that still catches the eye 35 years after it was introduced – this Heath digital super clock.

It's apparently a 1976 design, with a teak case and a bold digital display, with each orange digital number 'the size of a cigarette box' on a black background. There are also controls on the back for setting the time, with mains offering the power.

The seller claims it is, 'very well-tended, hardly used or probably unused', with little or no signs of age. A few bids on this right now, but the price is still only £6.64, albeit with some days to go.

eBay watch: 1970s Blessing tulip-style space age alarm clock

Tulip

Judging by the brisk bidding so far for this item, the Blessing alarm clock is an item in demand.

Straight out of the 1970s (as you might have guessed), it was made in (West) Germany, with a block and white colour scheme, circular colour scheme for the numbers and that tulip-style base. All of that in a clock that stands around seven inches tall.

As we said, plenty of interest already, although that interest has only resulted in a bidding price of £23 so far.

Nextime Disco Clock

Nextime-disco-clock3
It seems disco might be the next big trend in retro interiors as just after featuring Urban Outfitters Rotating Disco Mirror Ball last week, I spotted this Disco Clock by Nextime.

The clock is covered is made up of hundreds of tiny square mirrored tiles with clock hands in black to provide enough contrast to make it easy to tell the time from. Whereas the mirror ball we featured last week was of small proportions, this piece is true to the size of a real disco ball, measuring an impressive 43 centimetres in diameter.

The clock is available to buy from Red Candy, priced £31.50.

1950s-style Retro Wall Clock at Tesco

Clock

Not the typical place to find a retro gem, but this Retro Wall Clock at Tesco is certainly that – and for not a lot of money.

It's a wall clock, one that would fit perfectly into a 1950s or early 60s-inspired home, with a metal case, contrasting hands, vintage-style numbers and a choice of several colours, including the duck egg blue above.

Sized around 23.8cm across, you can pick one up online for just £10.
