Tu Dark Wood Flower Clock from Sainsbury’s

Flower clock
If you're keen to inject some retro style into your home but your bank balance has taken a battering over the Christmas period, this Tu dark wood flower clock from Sainsbury's is something of a bargain.

It's a simple wall mounted clock, with wooden petals radiating out from the central design, that would fit easily into a 1950s/60s look.

And the price? The clock costs only £18.

Newgate’s Mondaine-style Metropolitan clock

Metropolitan

Another great retro clock from Newgate is hardly a surprise. However, this Metropolitan clock looks like its been influenced by another design classic: the distinctive Mondaine clock.

The Mondaine clock dates from the 1940s and was designed for the railways to be easily read from distance. This new design takes on some of that readability in that it uses the chunky block divisions around the dial and has the same clarity of design. A crucial difference though is in the clock's hands – the Mondaine relies on a red hand to mark the seconds, in the case of the Metropolitan it's just a red hour and minute hand.

The Metropolitan clock is also bigger at 60cm across and, crucially, is also cheaper. Not by masses though. While you can buy an official Mondaine clock for around £230, this design costs £190.

eBay watch: Reissued Vitra Ball Clock by George Nelson

Nelson

We featured one of these way back in 2007, but it was a new one, selling for more than the amount being asked right now on eBay for this Vitra Ball Clock by George Nelson.

It's a reissue of a George Nelson classic, originally dating back to 1948 and reissued for the modern era by Vitra. It's a mix of maple and brushed metal, with a high-grade quartz clock, all powered by a single battery and sized around 33cm (diameter).

Some interest already, but with just over three days to go, the price stands at just £1.30. One to keep an eye on for sure.

Giant Electric Wall Clock by Newgate Clocks

Newgate

There is a standard-sized version, but if you want real impact on your wall, the Giant Electric Wall Clock by Newgate Clocks should provide it.

It's actually sized at 60cm diameter, as well as being a recreation of a classic wall clock of the 40s and into the 1950s, complete with a metal case, clean printed dial, glass lens and metal hands.

Available in a chrome or black finish, it sells for £160.

Star Clock

Starclock
Rather different from George Nelson’s clock of the same name, this Star Clock still has a midcentury style to it.

Measuring 60cm in diameter, the clock is made from American Black Walnut, with the hours marked out with stainless steel. The hour and minute hands are also made from steel, which contrasts nicely with the dark wood.

The Star Clock costs £104 from Tinsmiths.

eBay watch: 1970s space age alarm clock lamp

Spacelamp

Not sure of the make, the designer (if there is one) or the specific year, so let's just refer to this as 1970s space age alarm clock lamp.

The lampshade is apparently made of brushed aluminium with perforations on the top for ventilation, while the stem and base are made of chocolate brown plastic. That's not forgetting the digital alarm clock at the front of the base with a black face and a rectangular protective perspex screen, along with 'light up' green numbers.

It's described as being in 'very good condition' and in 'full working order', with a few age related marks – see the site if you want to know more about that. Right now, it's at just £1.20.
