eBay watch: 1960s Cifra 3 flip clock by Gino Valle

Cifra

It's a design classic and as I type, a Cifra 3 flip clock by Gino Valle is on eBay for £1.

The clock was first designed back in 1965 and its familiarity today is testament to its impact over the laast 45 years. The one here is in an unusual yellow colour, but otherwise has the distinctive flip numbers and bulbous face.

You might need to get it rewired for your country, but on the plus side, condition seems very good. Just £1 – bargain of the day…unless the bids come in.

Paladone Pac Man Alarm Clock

637009
There appears to be a rash to retro gaming products about at the moment (probably in preparation for the approaching festive season, although we are loath to mention it just yet), including this Pac-Man Alarm Clock from Paladone.

As you can see here, the clock consists of a giant pac-man with a digital clock inside his mouth. The alarm uses authentic sounds from the original game, which should be irritating enough to get most people out of bed on time.

It is available to buy online from Comet for £29.99.

Newgate God Save The Queen Clock

God-save-the-queen

Newgate has produced a number of retro clocks, usually inspired by old-fashioned railway station clocks, but this is the first one I’ve seen that is influenced by punk.

The God Save the Queen Clock doesn’t feature Jamie Reid’s iconic artwork for the Sex Pistols’ record, but does have a punk aesthetic, with paint splattered patterns clashing with the vintage-style numerals. The clock is made from glass and measures 50cm in diameter.

It costs £44.95 from Colloco.

Joe Colombo’s Optic Clock

Following on from the Alessi Cronotime Clock mentioned earlier in the week, here is another affordable clock from Alessi, Joe Colombo’s Optic Clock.

This clock was originally designed in 1970and was in production until 2004, returning now after that short break. It is made from ABS plastic and is available in a choice of black or white. Measuring 8cm in all dimensions, it is a neat size for a bedside alarm clock.

It is available to buy from Utility Design priced £38.

1960s Pio Manzu-designed Alessi Cronotime Clock reissued

Chrono

An affordable design classic, with the Alessi Cronotime Clock returning 44 years after it was first seen on the shelves.

1966 was the year Pio Manzu designed it and the clock really does scream that particular era. A tubular design in ABS plastic and a big, bold face to tell you the time. Don't fancy orange? You can get it in black too.

No matter which one you go for, the price is the same – a modest £38.

eBay watch: 1970s space age Atomium desk clock

Atomic

I'm not sure the image above does this justice, so check out the full listing of this 1970s space age Atomium desk clock to see some close-up shots. It's an impressive thing.

With a case made of black and transparent perspex and a clock mechanism built into the base, the clock's hands are a mix of three-dimensional rings and chrome-plated balls. So how do you tell the time? Simple – you look down and see the time based on that structure and base. There's also a 'seconds' hand that (as you might guess) constantly moves, creating an object that's both practical and attention-grabbing.

It still works perfectly and is powered by a single AA battery. Unsurprisingly, there's already interest in this, but the bidding is still at just £21. A real bargain.
