eBay watch: 1970s Prinztronic LED digital clock

Prinz

Big thanks to Andrew for sending us this rather interesting oddity on eBay – a Prinztronic LED digital clock.

What's particularly interesting in this item is the condition, listed as 'boxed and unused' from its original shelf date of 1979. Which means it's not got a scratch on it and works as intended from day one.

For your money, you get a clock very much 'of its era', with that LED display, auto brightness control, snozze, finger touch controls and of course, packaging and instructions. Price? Right now just £1.99.

1960s Vitra Wheel Clock by George Nelson

Nelson

A new batch of George Nelson classics have been reissued by Vitra in 2010, including the George Nelson Wheel Clock.

It's from the 1960s, specifically 1961, with a design not dissimilar to the spokes of a car. Hence the name. Those tubular 'spokes' are made from lacquered walnut, with a tip of aluminium, the latter also used for the hands.

It has a diameter of 45.5cm, which is certain to make an impact on any wall. £269 is the price.

eBay watch: 1970s Jerger space age alarm clock

Jerger

As regular readers might have noticed, we're rather taken with vintage alarm clocks, especially big and bold designs from the 1970s. Like this Jerger alarm clock for example.

German-made and of course, dating back to the 70s, the clock is in full working order (so good for getitng you out of your bed), with the maker's name displayed clearly in the middle of those stylised 70s numbers, just above the chunky hands.

The colour scheme os a very 'of the era' orange and black and the price right now is just 99 pence. A bargain.

eBay watch: 1970s Braun 4780 wall clock

Braun

Love the modernist looks, but the Braun 4780 wall clock doesn't date back to the original modernist era, instead it dates from the 1970s.

But it is still a very striking design, especially if you love that utilitarian look. The clock is actually plastic, burgundy for the frame, cream for the face and black for the hands (as well as the numbers). It still features the original Braun label and works off a single AA battery.

Not too expensive either, the auction price is currently £21.

Cube alarm clock by Authentics

Cubelcdclockblue

Wake up each morning to the retro looks of the cube alarm clock by Authentics

Its design combines a number of influences: while the gently rounded corners to the cube suggest older eras, the digital display, combined with the choice of bright blue, green or yellow for the front casing, gives it an 80s twist. Somehow it all works together and it looks simple to use as well – just what you need first thing in the morning!

Nice price too at £25.

eBay watch: Meister-Anker space age mantel clock

Spaceageclock

Clocks always seem to go down well on these pages, so we couldn't resist featuring this Meister-Anker mantel clock, which is currently up for auction on eBay.

Out of West Germany and, we would guess, out of the early 1970s, the clock features the Meister-Anker maker's name as well as that bold red and black design, a 'tulip-style' base and although it dopesn't state it, an alarm judging by the contrast hand and large button on top.

if you're going for that look, this could be a perfect addition. Sold out of the US, it's currently up for sale at $12.50 (around £8.14), so still a bargain.
