An interesting design on eBay right now, this 1950s John Clappison Palette coffee table.
According to the seller, it was produced in collaboration with cabinet maker Jack Reynolds and made by Rapier and was featured in a furniture exhibition at Earl's Court in 1957.
Condition? It's described as 'fantastic', with the 'odd light chip to the veneer'. If you want it, the bidding right now is at £10.50.
A very stylish piece on eBay, this 1950s midcentury-style split level coffee table.
A lovely, midcentury-style design, it has those angled legs, two levels and a lovely grain on the wood, judging by those pictures. The second level is apparently more of a matt finish, not that the image shows it that well.
Condition is described as 'excellent', a couple of superficial scratches on the top latter and some on feet, but nothing seemingly to worry about. £9 is the current bid price. Find out more at the eBay website
Remember the Chiltern open display cabinet from a week or so ago? Well, it's not the only thing in the exclusive range – check out the Ercol for John Lewis 1950s Chiltern coffee table and lamp table.
Like the cabinet, both are based on original 1950s designs from the Ercol archives. made from solid white oak, with a matt lacquer, rounded, angled edges, slim legs and criss-cross strutwork.
The coffee table is above, selling for £399, while the lamp table is pictured over the page, priced at £299.
This Wire Coffee Table/Magazine Rack draws inspired from the wire furniture of the 1950s and 1960s such as Knoll’s .Platner chair or the Bertoia Diamond armchair.
We like these wire furniture, but we also like multi-purpose pieces, where this item also scores highly. It functions as a coffee table and magazine rack, but the wooden top can also be lifted off and used separately as a tray. It costs just under £110 which is a particularly good price if you look at it as three items in one.
When it comes to affordable midcentury design, you can't go far wrong with the better end of the G-Plan range. If you dig around, you can find a number of interesting (and always well made) pieces, both at eBay and in secondhand places. This G-Plan Astro coffee table is one of the more common, but also one of the better value designs.
It's a coffee table, first seen in the 1960s and made of teak, that curved wood frame offering some midcentury-style cool, the whole thing finished off by a central piece of glass. It looked good then and it arguably still looks good now.
This one looks in excellent condition, having 'recently been waxed and oiled', with no mention of any kind of damage anywhere. It's no a 'buy it now' for £95. If you miss out or think that's a bit costly, keep looking, they do come up regularly. Find out more at the eBay website
Another simple and stylish piece of furniture courtesy of Laura Ashley and this Milton coffee table.
The oval table is part of the same range as the Milton Storage Unit we featured earlier in the month and it's got the same mid-century feel, although this table is a lot plainer and simpler. It has the benefit of the practicility of a built-in storage shelf and made from oak, it's sure to stand the test of time well.
