Make your own Trellick Tower stocking at the East London Design Show

Trellickstocking

The Trellick Tower on this Christmas stocking will look very familiar to regular readers of this site. Well, if you're a fan of the design, Clothkits (we featured another of their collaborations with People Will Always Need Plates on the VW dungarees earlier this week) are running Make your own Trellick Tower stocking workshops at the East London Design Show over this weekend. The workshops cost just £10 and have all the materials, equipment and helping hands necessary to craft your own Christmassy Brutalist architecture-inspired stocking.

The East London Design Show runs from the 4 to 6 December at Shoreditch Town Hall. Included in the 100 plus exhibitors are designers like Michelle Mason, Mini Moderns and Snowden Flood, all of whose work has been previously featured on this site. So, even if you don't fancy getting crafty, the fair still seems well worth a visit.

For more details and to book your place on the workshop visit the Clothkits website

Charley Harper needlepoint

Harper flamingo

Regular readers of the site will be aware that we are massive fans of Charley Harper's mid-century designs. Those who are gifted with a needle may be interested to hear that some of his best loved prints are available as needlepoint designs.

Treglowan design produce the hand painted canvases, it's then up to the embroiderer to select the threads to match and interpret the pattern. Pictured is Flamingo Row which costs $70, but the prices vary from $50 up to $350: definitely not one for beginners.

‘Vintage…and more’ fashion fair 27 September

Vintage_Fashion_London

Another new London vintage fair event for the calendar, the 'Vintage..and more' fashion fair which is being held at the Byam Shaw College of Art, N19, this Sunday 27 September.

As well as the typical array of vintage clothing stalls, the '…and more' bit of the title refers to the fact they'll also be selling customised items of clothing and will be featuring makers who create new designs from vintage fabric. Because of this, they are promising a larger-than-usual selection of clothes for men and kids. There will also be a section devoted entirely to haberdashery.

The fair runs from between 11am and 5pm. Entrance costs just £3 (or £2 for students) but the bargain hunting starts early as there's the opportunity to request free entrance tickets on their website.

BT Tower Cross Stitch kit by Make Industries

BT Tower

Cross stitch and mid-sixties architecture seem a slightly unlikely combination but that's what you get with this BT Tower Cross stitch kit from Make Industries. The BT Tower (formerly the Post Office Tower) was built in 1964 and, to craft your very own version, the kit includes a pattern, thread and full instructions.

The woman behind Make Industries, Tina Fox, is a former architect and they also have kits available of a couple more iconic London buildings in the shape of Battersea Power Station and the Lloyds Building. Each kit costs £22.50.
