Jane Foster vintage cushions website

Jane foster cushions

We've featured many of Jane Foster's designs on this site before which all draw heavily on her love of vintage fabrics and retro patterns. It's now easier than ever to get a piece of her style, with her new dedicated vintage cushion website

The Jane Foster store has always sold cushions that she'd made from found fabric alongside her own designs. Re-using vintage material as cushion covers is certainly not a unique idea but Foster's great eye for a good pattern leads for a fantastic range to pick from, mostly dating from the 50s, 60s and 70s. If your sofa is looking a little dreary this colourful store will have something to liven it up instantly. She'll even take commissions.

Prices for the cushions range roughly between £15 and £30, depending on the rarity of the fabric used.

Flower power

Another Union Jack inspired design, this time courtesy of Liberty who have produced this Flower Power Union Jack cushion.

It’s part of their collection produced for their ‘Flower Power’ summer, part of the famous department store’s involvement in the Carnaby Street 1960 – 2010 celebrations. The Union Jack is made up using Liberty floral fabrics, giving a prettier look to the flag. You can also buy a square cushion in the same design.

The cushion costs £65.

Karen Hilton’s White on White target cushion

Target cushion

The Mod Target gets a new look with Karen Hilton's White on White target cushion

The design has been recreated on the cushion cover, using unbleached cotton and white felt instead of the familiar red, white and blue. The result still keeps the sixties feel but gives the cushion more of a space age look. Fancy seeing it in some other colours? Take a look at Hilton's other designs which use brights such as hot pink and yellow to create cushions with added Pop.

Each cushion is handmade and costs £34.

Captainspattern

Another interesting fabric design courtesy of St Jude's, The Captain's Pattern designed by Jonny Hannah

A while back we showed you Hannah's print for the Museum of British Folklore and this fabric design celebrates some of the folklore and customs of the sea. There's mermaids, deep-sea divers and vintage tattoo-style designs, all interspersed with images of anchors and executed in his trademark style. It's a two colour design (either red/blue or blue/blue) printed onto heavy weight cotton.

The fabric costs £38 per metre or you can buy it as ready-made cushion covers for £32.

Random retail designs

Random retail

Random Retail produce cotton cushions and tote bags based on the typography of vintage signs.

The two designs show are a couple of examples from their collection. The bag on the left reproduces an advert for a furniture auction in Bembridge in 1923, offering everything from settees to a rowing boat. It's available in red, green, blue and grey and, as a nice touch, the back of the back shows an old bus timetable for getting to Bembridge. In contrast, the cushion shows a sign for alerting the fire brigade, slightly adapted for the cushion design.

Random Retail's bags cost £22 while the cushions cost £30.
