Trellick Tower façade cushion from Margo Selby and People Will Always Need Plates

Trellicktowfac_trrv

You may think that People Will Always Need Plates have exhausted all the possible designs that come from the Trellick Tower: we've seen cushionsplates and mugs and even a Christmas stocking. However, it's back to this iconic Brutalist building they go for their latest product, a cushion of the Trellick Tower façade, produced in collaboration with Margo Selby

Margo's skill lies in weaving – indeed you may have seen her on the BBC Mastercrafts programme – and this cushion shows the façade of the building recreated using woven silk/viscose jacquard. This gives a nice tactile feel and some would almost say an almost welcoming look both to the building and to the cushion.

The cushions are turquoise on one side and white on the other and filled with a feather core. They cost £70 each.

Cushion covers using 1940s Henry Moore designed textiles

Henry Moore cushion covers

A reissue being sold to accompany the current Henry Moore exhibition at Tate Modern, these cushion covers use textile designs Moore did in the 1940s.

Although the artist is famous for his sculptural works he did also produce textile designs, first for Zika Ascher from 1943 onwards and then for David Whitehead Fabrics after the Festival of Britain. The two textiles available, Wings and Ovals or Half Figures, were both designs produced for Ascher in about 1947.

The patterns are printed onto 100% cotton cushion covers, which sell without their pads. They cost £15 each.

Yahgie fabrics and cushions featuring 20th-century design classics

Yahgie

There have been hundreds of prints, fabrics, cushions and other artworks featured on this site that draw their inspiration from instantly recognisable mid-century design classics. Yahgie's fabric and cushion collection join that long list, but they do so in style.

The cushion shown on the left is the thing for any chair addicts. The design features sketchy illustrations of the chairs, shown with their names underneath, enabling you to swot up on your design history as you recline. This pattern is also available as a cotton fabric, as is the Pop Art style pattern on the right that uses the distinctive shape of Henningsen's Artichoke lamp.

If these designs appeal, their website is well worth an explore as Yahgie also sell wall art and tableware.

The cushion costs $49.99 while the fabric costs $89.99 for a yard (approximately 91cm).

Tattoo cushions from Dwell

Dwell tattoo cushions

We've seen retro-style tattoos adorning everything from rugs to dish cloths, as well as the body, and it continues with these tattoo cushions from Dwell

Both cushions use typical tattoo motifs: one shows a pierced heart with a blank banner while the other is decorated with a classic rose dedicated to 'Mom'. The slightly annoying Americanism aside, these cushions are a subtler take on the trend with the illustrations marked out in simple red and black against the plain white of the cotton.

Each cushion costs £19.95.

Retro leaves cushion from Next

Retro leaves cushion

Just yesterday we showed you ISAK's new floral mug, their interpretation of the 1950s-style skeletal floral designs that are around at the moment. Here's another take on that theme, courtesy of the high street and Next's retro leaves cushion

If you're a bit suspicious of chintz, this simple and pared-back design is the perfect way to introduce a touch of the natural world into your home.

It's something of a bargain too, costing only £10.
