Tape doormat from Third Drawer Down

Cassette_mat_2_medium

Like the rubik's cube beanbag we featured the other day, here's another icon of the 80s that crops up repeatedly on homewares: the humble cassette, this time appearing in this tape doormat from Third Drawer Down

The doormat comes in the shape of simple blank cassette and measures a substantial 60cm across. It's probably a bit more durable than the average tape too, being made from rubber and being fully washable.

The doormat costs AUD74.

Nice to see you doormat at Colloco

Doormat
It's become of one of British TVs most famous catchphrases, so if you fancy a Brucie bonus each time you enter your home, invest in this Nice to See You doormat from Colloco.

It's a simple coconut doormat decorated with the phrase 'Nice to see you, To see you nice'. In fact it's so simple, I'm amazed it hasn't been done before. Pair it up with one of Ink's Nice to see you prints for a perfect comedy double act.

The mat costs £19.95.

Clipper doormat at Jamie Oliver

Doormat

Sometimes nice retro products spring up in the most unlikely places, such as this Clipper doormat available exclusively at Jamie Oliver's website. I certainly never would have associated this clean, modern-looking number with the celebrity chef's ever-growing empire.

Designed by Gail Bryson for his 'Jme' line, the same geometric design is also available on mugs. The doormat is handwoven in India and is made from coconut husks and it's one of several designer collaborations to produce pieces for his collection which also includes cutlery from Russell Pinch and lovely illustration work on packaging from Lucia Gaggiotti. The whole site is worth a snoop and shows there's more to link Jamie Oliver with retro design than his scooter or camper van.

The doormat costs £28.
