Light Traffic Only mugs

Light traffic only

The black and white typography of these Light Traffic Only mugs makes for a great graphic look. Peer a bit closer and you'll realise the mugs are covered with the names of villages in North Essex and surrounding area and the design is in fact inspired by old white village signposts which are gradually disappearing from the countryside.

The product is the combined work of illustrator Michelle Thompson and graphic designer Gareth Wild. This unusual design is also available on tea towels.

These mugs cost £7.

Soda Stream gets a limited edition Karim Rashid makeover

Karim

It's something of an icon from the 1970s, so it's appropriate that Karim Rashid has given the Soda Stream a limited edition makeover – in a 1970s style.

Yes, there's a distinct space age look to the new Soda Stream, as well as a bold retro colour scheme for the exterior and carbonating bottles. There's even two limited edition syrups created especially for the new release – Elderberry-Blueberry and Lemon-Strawberry, should you fancy giving your tastebuds a treat too.

We've not seen this for sale in the UK as yet, but Colette (which ships worldwide) does have it – selling the set for 130 Euros, which is around £107.

Update: Soda Stream has been in touch to inform us that the Karim Rashd model is available in the UK, exclusively at Harvey Nichols.

Lotta Kuhlhorn pear mugs

Lotta pear

It was only earlier this week we showed you Lotta Kühlhorn's jazzy lindyhop coasters. Here's another design from her, suitable for decorating the retro home, these attractive pear mugs

Like the products featuring her apple design, she uses a simplified, colourful version of the fruit. The pears come in bright pop shades of red, yellow and pink, as well as the more traditional green. Use them them next to your Orla Kiely pear mugs in the kitchen for a very fruity cup of tea.

The mugs cost £7.25 each.

Lotta Kuhlhorn Lindyhop coasters

Lotta-kuhlhorn-lindyhop-coasters

We've featured Lotta Kühlhorn's colourful retro designs before and here's another stylish product from the Swedish designer, these Lindyhop coasters

The design and colour are inspired by the 1930s dance craze but the sugary colours, combined with the black patterns gives them something of a 50s feel too. Whatever decade informs their look, there's no denying they would be a colourful addition to any home. Made from Swedish birch, they're pretty practical too.

A set of the four designs costs £13.95.

Push Me Pull You aviary mug

PUSH_aviarymug

Forget cute and twee depictions of animals, the work created by Push Me Pull You is also inspired by our four legged, furry or feathered friends but gives them a strong graphic, retro look, such as in this aviary mug

As the name would suggest, the mug is covered with depictions of birds. The various breeds are illustrated using geometric shapes and the first reference that springs to mind is Charley Harper's work on the same subject. The Push Me Pull You look doesn't just apply to birds though – take a peek at the shop and see foxes, elephants, giraffes and many more given the same treatment.

It's not just mugs either: the designs are available as clothing, prints and stationery.

Prices start at $5 with this mug costing $12.
