The Original Slush Mug

Slush

I'm guessing these were originally big in the US, because I can't remember the first coming of The Original Slush Mug in the UK. If you do, well it's back.

First introduced and used back in the 70s and 80s, the Slush Mug is an easy wway to make a slushy, icy drink on a hot day. Just freeze the mug’s liner, return it to the mug and pour in your favourite drink. Give it a stir and you have a perfectly mixed slushie.

Insulated so it stays colder for longer and able to take a shot of your favourite spirit too if you're in a party mood. Want one? Choose from two colours, both selling for £8.99. You'll thank us for this when the sun comes back out.

Dogfish Head does Miles Davis-inspired Bitches Brew beer

Brew

The album was released in 1970 and as well as being a bestseller, has been hugely influential amongst jazz, funk and rock musicians. But now Bitches Brew by Miles Davis is also the inspiration for a beer by Dogfish Head.

It's a potent little number too, described as 'a bold, dark beer that's a fusion of three threads imperial stout and one thread honey beer with gesho root, coming in at 9% ABV. According to Dogfish founder Sam Calagione, is "the ultimate partner for chili or spicy curry chicken" and best enjoyed "sipped cool, not cold, from a snifter or red wine glass while listening to the Bitches Brew album."

That album is due a reissue in August, which is when the beer, with that very hip label, will be on the market at an as-yet undisclosed price.

Retro butterfly teapot by Gone To Pot

Butterfly teapot

Proving that a good design will work on a variety of forms, this butterfly teapot is decorated with a pattern based on a 1950s textile design.

Made by hand by Gone To Pot, a Texas-based maker, the pattern is reproduced using an underglaze pencil and stain drawing, the diamond and butterfly shapes of the design adapting well to the curve of the pot. And, although the shape is less traditional than the British teapots we featured on Tuesday, it successfully fulfils the task of holding enough tea for two cups. Time to put the kettle on…

This pot costs $60.

Mondrian-inspired Mondri mug by Frank Kerdil

Mondri

Piet Mondrian has always inspired plenty of designers but there seems to be a rush of products influence by his art recently, from the Mondrian table range to the Piet tables. Add to that list the Mondri mug by Frank Kerdil

Like the vase Kerdil designed with the same name, he's used the strong lines and colour associated with the artist's work on a new product. In this case it's a sturdy looking, handle-less mug, complete with a silicon ring for adding practicality. It's one of several mugs by Kerdil new in at Panik Design, all of which have a strong graphic look that Mondrian would surely also have approved of.

The mugs are also a cheaper way to buy into the look than many of the other options, costing only £10.

Lemonade crates

Ideally timed for the arrival of the sunshine, these Lemonade crates, available from Berry Red are perfect for adding some zest to your home.

The crates are vintage-looking, made from wood and decorated with the retro typography reading 'fresh lemonade'. That turquoise, green or grey pain looks deliberately distressed too. They'd look good on display but would be an attractive way to store things out of the way too.

Each crate costs £30.
