1920s textile design tea towels from the Courtauld Gallery

Twenties tea towel

This Courtauld Gallery tea towel, based on a 1920s textile design, is possibly too beautiful to use on your dishes.

It's based on a textile design from the 1925 Exposition des Arts Decoratifs – the World's Fair that gave us the term 'Art Deco' – and reflects some of the dynamism you'd associate with that movement. The Courtauld have also produced a Tropical Birds design tea towel dating from the same period which is equally striking.

Something of a bargain too at £5. Frame them and get some instant art for your walls.

Körsbärsträdgården fabric by Marianne Westman reissued by Almedahls

Almedahls-korsbarstradgarden-scandinavian-fabric

This Körsbärsträdgården fabric is another Marianne Westman design dug out from the archives by Almedahls.

Although the name doesn't exactly trip off the tongue (unless you are fluent in Swedish), the name translates as cherry orchard, perhaps obvious from the charming cherries and cherry blossom visible in the design.

It's been reissued alongside Picknick to coincide with Westman's 80th birthday and still looks pretty and fresh today. The design is printed onto a 50% linen and 50% cotton mix.

The fabric costs £29 a metre.

Jane Foster Tilda doll kit

Jane Foster Tilda

Jane Foster's designs are no strangers on this site. So it's no surprise that when she designs something as simple as this Tilda doll kit, she injects a bit of retro style into that too.

Like the Clothkitty doll of old, it's a flat design printed onto linen cotton you then sew together and stuff yourself. Less stuffy than your average doll though – this design with her long hair and stripy Breton dress is a bit Jane Birkin-esque or, at the very least, the doll looks like she dresses with some 60s style.

The doll kit costs £20.

Pretty City red telephone box doorstop

Doorstop

It’s fairly easy to find a nice fabric doorstop – we’ve featured more than a few on this site. The idea is given a fun twist with this doorstop by Pretty City which comes in the iconic shape of a red telephone box

Though instantly recognisable as a phone box, it’s been given something of a make-over. The 10cm high doorstop is covered in appliqued and embroidered flowers and scrolls as well as the words ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ sewn onto either side of the doorstop. The stuffing also makes it a touch more wonky than your average phone box too, that’s unless vandals have been at it again of course.

A fun purchase, this doorstop costs £16.99.
