The old meets the new with the View Quest Retro 1 radio, which offers digital radio and a place to park your iPod or iPhone.

It's designed to look like a vintage radio, complete with leather casing and the all-important carrying handle. On looks alone, it's a winner. But it also has the modern-day functionality, with DAB/FM radio, 10 presets, an auto-scan function for finding stations plus the dock for playing your iPod/iPhone tunes through the 2x 2 watt speakers. A back-lit LCD screen finishes things off.

Pure Evoke Mio DAB radio by Orla Kiely

Pure is battling Roberts for the designer radio crown, but we think this Pure Evoke Mio DAB radio by Orla Kiely just edges the Roberts Cath Kidston radio.

As you can see, the exterior is covered by Orla Kiely's signature stem print, finished off with a mirrored chrome handle and a walnut-veneered cabinet. According to Pocket Lint, it has both DAB and FM reception, with an input for an iPod or MP3 player and the option of the Pure ChargePAK for up to 24 hours of portable listening per charge. Other features include 30 presets and Intellitext and textScan functions for pausing and scrolling through text information.

The Pure Evoke Mio DAB radio by Orla Kiely will be on sale exclusively at John Lewis from early November and at other retailers from March 2011. £149.99 will secure you one. Another shot of the radio over the page.

Pure Evoke-1S Marshall DAB radio gets upgraded and reissued

The original was first featured on this site back in 2006, so it's high time for an upgrade for the Pure Evoke-1S Marshall DAB radio. Which has just been announced.

In looks, much is the same – it still mimics a classic Marshall amplifier, offering a solid wood, Marshall made and approved cabinet complete with an integrated, full range hi-fi speaker packing a custom-designed 3-inch driver, active filters and bass reflex port. If you want stereo, there's also an additional matching auxiliary speaker, but you'll have to pay a little extra for that.

Vita Audio R1 MkII portable music system arrives with retro-style carry case

Way back in the depths of 2007, we featured the original Vita Audio R1, a cool, retro-styled radio with a nice wooden finish. Fast forward three years and the Vita Audio R1 MkII portable music system, sporting a rather stylish carry case.

The new version of the hip audio cube has DAB, DAB+ and FM reception, input for your iPod or MP3 player, large digital display and clock/alarm functions. Reason enough for considering a purchase. But now there's also the CarryPack, a high-quality hand-stitched case, available in black or tan leather for that retro finishing touch. There's also a BackPack too, a rechargeable NiMH battery system which attaches and blends with the rear panel for up to 20 hours of replay on the go.

The radio will sell for £159.99, the CarryPack for £39.99 and the BackPack £49.99. All will be available from John Lewis from late June.
