“Toy Box Memories” Jigsaws

3413

The favourite toys of each decade from in 1940 to 1970 are commemorated in a series of “Toy Box Memories” Jigsaws.

Each thousand-piece jigsaw has a collection of that decades most popular games and toys. As well as offering a nostalgic reminder of childhood, the toys offer an interesting of reflection of their respective period. The Forties have plenty of war-related games, the Fifties are inspired by the television including games based on Dixon of Dock Green and Take Your Pick and the Sixties reflect obsessions with space, fashion and spies. The Seventies jigsaw features the toys I remember best, which includes Paddington Bear, Emu and a Starsky and Hutch game.

All of the jigsaws cost £14.99 and are available from Strawberry Fool.

Re-issue of 1930s game Laripino

LARIPINO
If you want to buy your kids a game that doesn't require an endless supply of AA batteries, you may want to look at this re-issue of the game Laripino.

The game dates back to the 1930s when it was manufactured by Spear's and operates on a very simple concept: players roll marbles down the helter skelter and are awarded different amounts of points depending on the hole the marbles land in. It's as straight forward as that. While this re-issue makes use of the original packaging to add to its nostalgic charm, whether your kids go for it or not is a different matter…

The game costs £8.

000113731If you spent a terse Christmas day playing board games with the family, then you might not want a product that is a further reminder, but if Monopoly only has happy childhood memories for you, then you may be interested in the Hasbro Monopoly Lap Tray and Coasters.

These are official products so the designs are exactly the same as on the classic London version of the board. The tray has an easy-wipe print of the game board on the top and a think cushion base underneath, made from beans which mould to fit your lap comfortably. The coasters take their design from the four corners of the Monopoly board.
