Festival of Britain tote bag

Festival bag

If you were a fan of Lizzie Allen's print produced to celebrate 60th anniversary of Festival of Britain but couldn't quite justify the £250 price tag, there's a chance to pick up the design for a lot cheaper with this Festival of Britain tote bag

It's a cotton bag, printed with the same design as used on the print, blending Lizzie Allen's distinctive vintage characters with the icons of the Festival, such as the Royal Festival Hall.

And then there's the bonus of the price. The bag costs just £15.

London Folk Mugs from Our Workshop

Folk mugs

Got your London traybag and lunchbox? If you really do love London town, you're sure to want to complete your collection with these London Folk Mugs from Our Workshop

Far removed from tourist tat, these mugs are actually quite classy little fellows – in fact they remind me of the work of Kenneth Townsend and his London series of tiles from the late 60s/early 70s. Each mug features a simple illustration of three characters of London – the Yeoman, the Royal Guard and a policeman – beautifully depiciting their iconic outfits, and their fine moustaches.

A mug costs £12.

An Embrace of Roses by Woop Studios

Embrace

For an alternative Valentine's Day print, take a look at this An Embrace of Rose print by Woop Studio

Although this print obviously has a romantic feel, Woop Studio specialize in producing prints based around collection nouns, so take a look at their other designs based around things such as a Parliament of Owls or a Stand of Flamingos. All the prints are executed in the same retro style, reminiscent of the work of someone like Abram Games in the 1940s and 1950s.

Prices start at £69 for a small unframed print.

Barneby Gates Promenade wallpaper

Barneby-gates-promenade-wallpaper
More quirky wallpaper, this time courtesy of Barneby Gates and their Promenade design.

You may remember their This Other Eden wallpaper, which appeared to be composed of old photographs. This design also has a vintage appearance, looking like a traditional toile design. Peer a bit closer (there's a close-up over the page to help you) and you'll see an extraordinary range of characters, based on changing fashions of the twentieth-century. So you get a fully decked out teddy boy talking to a flapper boy, or a punk addressing an Edwardian lady. The characters promenade even takes them past iconic temples to fashion such as the Biba store.

The design is great fun and is sure to be a talking point for many more years. It costs £65 a roll.

La Vie Ordinaire wallpaper from B&Q

La vie ordinaire
If you like Cath Kidston's London design or the retro city views of Lizzie Allen's City Gents wallpaper or indeed the the C'est Magnifique wallpaper we featured a couple of weeks ago, this La Vie Ordinaire wallpaper from B&Q could offer you a good budget option.

Like those three designs, it's decorated with illustrations of a city, in this case showing London, Paris and New York. It's a very nostalgic, touristy viewpoint so New York gets yellow cabs and the Statue of Liberty; London gets gents in suits and a girl in a rain mac holding a bulldog. The retro feel is further enhanced by the red and yellow highlights that have been used as part of the illustrations.

The paper costs £19.98 for 10 metres
