Keith Haring Balance Game from Colette

Keith_image_147722_en There is no reason why even the most mundane child's toy can't be stylish and beautiful – as with this Keith Haring Balance Game from Parisian concept store Colette.

The Balance Game is created by Vilac, a long-established French brand, crafting quality children's toys from wood in the forests of Jura.  It's 18 pieces of brightly coloured wood in the shape of Keith Haring's distinctive figures which can be stacked on top of one another in a game which develops concentration, hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills – never mind a fine appreciation of modern art at the same time.

The game costs 28 euros from Colette here.

Belle & Boo Pirate Party Melamine Set

BB-Melamineset1RGB
Retro To Go favourites Belle and Boo continue to expand their product range with ever more little characters and scenes appearing on an increasing range of products, the latest of which is this Pirate Party Melamine Set.

This design is more boy-friendly then some of their previous offerings, as little pirates climb trees and build dens and treehouses out of sight of interfering adults. The illustration ticks all the right boxes too; cute without being sentimental and stylish whilst still capturing the fun of being a kid.

The set consists of cup, bowl, plate and cutlery and costs £18 from the Belle & Boo site here.

Tiger umbrella

Umbrella
Although strictly for children this tiger umbrella is the perfect antidote to the rain.

It's quite tiny so unless you're also a very small person this might be best left to the children. It's a great present for someone small and when we first saw this it immediately bought back memories of stamping around in puddles and playing in the rain.

Get one for a young person you know (or just buy one yourself) from the V&A website for £15.

2009-143_3

Yes, this classic piece of space age design is available sized for children. These chairs are also made using the original moulds, dating back to the 1970s. It shares its shape and material with the grown-up version so also shares some of the designs practical advantages: it's suitable for outdoor use and is stackable.

The kid's version comes in two sizes, take your pick from 'Junior' or 'Toddler' depending on the size of your offspring.

The chairs cost £88 each.
