Marianne Westman 1950s My Garden tray

Westman tray

We've recently featured some new products based on Marianne Westman's Picknick. Another of her 1950s designs is reinterpreted here for a new market with this My Garden tray

The tray features a pattern that was originally used on the My Garden porcelain. It shows a platter worth of fish, itself reminiscent of the Jonathan Adler's Neptune design that we featured last week. If you like this design, it's also available on a tea towel and on a cutting board.

This tray costs $28

John Lewis 1950s-style Retro Kitchen PVC tablecloth

Chilli

A functional item with a cool retro twist – this Retro Kitchen PVC tablecloth at John Lewis.

It's a bold and bright 1950s-style illustrated design – pots, pans, storage jars, you know the kind of thing, all on a 'chilli' red background. The idea is it acts as a 'wipe clean' tablecloth, with a length of 2 metres meaning you can cut it to fit pretty much any table.

Grab it online, £32 is the price.

Kavalkad Saucepan

Kavalkad-saucepan-white__0114923_PE267910_S4
New in at Ikea is the Kavalkad Saucepan, a modern non-stick pan with a midcentury look.

The lightweight pan is made from aluminium which allows heat to spread quickly and makes it easy to regulate, but what really attracted us to this was the outside design. The pan has been given a bright blue finish and decorated with a graphic floral design that is reminiscent of classic Scandinavian designers of the past such as Cathrineholm. It being an Ikea product, it is cheap too – just £4.99. Hopefully a full set of pots and pans will follow shortly.

Find out if your nearest Ikea has it in stock through the Ikea website.

Cole of London’s London mugs

Cole of London

More products celebrating London, though Cole of London's London mugs are a quirky take on the trend.

There are four mugs available, each featuring a different London landmark – pick from Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Tower of London or the Houses of Parliament. Each place is depicted in a sketchy style which contrasts to the official looking title and facts that are listed on the side of each mug. It's a style that's reminiscent of the work of Royston Cooper, who produced many travel advertisements in the 50s and 60s – and that's a very good thing indeed.

Made from bone china, the mugs cost £10 each.

Fresh slice – vinyl themed pizza cutter

Fresh slice

We love a good bit of vinyl, which is handy as shops seem eager to sell us record-related home accessories – the latest being the Fresh slice pizza cutter. Yep, it's a pizza cutter in which the blade is made to resemble a record (thankfully made from stainless steel rather than vinyl) and the plastic handle is made to look like a stylus arm.

File it next to the vinyl chopping board and the clock as a kitsch bit of kitchen fun.

The cutter costs £15.

Revival Electric Kettle

Pt1111lb
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to retro kettles with great designs by the likes of Alessi and Delonghi now joined by this Revival Electric Kettle by Present Time.

It has a distinctive shape (possibly 1970s style) and combines chrome with bright coloured plastic for the handle, lid and base. Whilst the shape is decidedly retro, the kettle has the best of modern convenience in being cordless.

It is available with a choice of bright blue or lime green finishes from Our Green, priced £59. If you would prefer it in red or pink, you can buy it from No Brand via Amazon, for the same price.
