Heart Duffle Coat from Miss Selfridge

Heartduffle

Classic Paddington Bear-a-like duffle coats are always a worthwhile choice of retro outerwear, providing practicality and classic style all at once. There's always room for some variety, though, and with vintage looks like this Heart Duffle Coat from Miss Selfridge there's no compromise.

The peach-orange shade has an instantly mid-sixties look, along with the shortened a-line cut that's girly and dollish enough for a mod inspired style. The addition of faux fur in a rich cream shade adds some luxury to the coat, belying its High Street price tag, while bell sleeves are a cute touch.

Gold ceramic pineapple from Dwell

PineappleDwell is well known for its high street take on designer looks. This season it adds a bit of festive sparkle into its collection of accessories which includes this gold ceramic pineapple

As you know, any well-stocked retro bar comes complete with a pineapple ice bucket. This ornament takes inspiration from that look. Admittedly less useful than an ice bucket, the ornament wins full points for kitsch glamour.

The pineapple costs £29.95.

Gingerbread Man Jewellery from Kitsch-tique

Gingerbreadjewels

While the number one cutesy charm in retro jewellery at the moment seems to be cupcakes of all shapes and sizes, there's another sweet treat that has caught our eye. From online jewellery retailers Kitsch-tique these Gingerbread Man Jewellery pieces have all the kitsch appeal of cupcake necklaces, without falling foul of cliché.

Available as a pair of simple stud earrings or a small pendant necklace, the jewels are made from plastic buttons in an edible shade of gingerbread brown. Thanks to their simple and light materials, they're a bit of a bargain to boot.

Get them online from Kitsch-tique at £4.50 for the necklace or £3 for the earrings.

Skk Lighting 1960s-style robot lamp

Robotlamp
You know how we love a good robot on this site and somehow the stockpile of designs never seems to be exhausted. Latest in (and a new favourite) is this retro-style Robot lamp made by Skk Lighting.

Skk Lighting, the brand of lighting consultant Shiu-Kay Kan, does a good line in fun products – lights in the shape of everything from skulls to dinosaurs – but the inspiration for this little creature came from a 1960s tin Japanese toy robot. The shape has been replicated from plastic and, when the bulb is on, gives a glow perfect for a spot of night reading.

A great little piece of design, the lamp sells for £59.

Bambi light

Shop_bambi

For those who prefer their retro cute and kitsch rather than classically refined, this Bambi light could be just the thing. It's a low voltage plastic lamp that's in the form of everyone's favourite deer.

It could be a sweet touch in a kid's room, or more of a statement piece in a grown-up's room. Either way, measuring 27cm high and 40cm across, it's not going to blend into the background.

The lamp costs £99 from the Caravan Style website

Fiona Hewitt’s Pop Dumpling Dynasty print

Dumpling

Fiona Hewitt is the illustrator behind the Dumpling Dynasty whose kitsch kits are for sale throughout the UK (we featured their shoe shine kit early last year). The Boxbird store also has a selection of her prints online, including the Pop print shown above.

The giclee print, a fake advert for a sickly looking pink drink, features an overly cute boy and his loyal donkey and shows her usual beguiling mix of influences: everything from Chinese communist propaganda alongside advertising and packaging from the 40s and 50s. If you decide this look works for you, this particular print costs £200.
