Knitting Vintage by Claire Montgomerie

Vintage knitting
If you were inspired by Marnie Fogg's book on Vintage Knitwear and want to be able to recreate some of the looks yourself, there's another book you might want to invest in: Knitting Vintage by Claire Montgomerie.

The book features 30 knitting projects relating to trends and knitwear looks dating from between the 1900s and 1980s and reinventing them to work as part of a contemporary wardrobe. There's plenty of visual inspiration too: as well as plenty of images, there's a look at how different classic knitwear styles have been reinterpreted over the decades.

With 176 pages, this seems like a bit of a bargain, especially as you can currently buy it for £9.79 from Amazon

Dita Von Teese designs for Wheels & Dollbaby

Ditawheelsdollbaby

There may be some debate about whether or not burlesque's journey into the mainstream is a good thing, but there's few who can deny the credentials of the scene's current darling, Dita von Teese. With proven retro credentials, she's turned her hand to fashion once more with designs for Wheels & Dollbaby.

This Dita's Closet Embroidered Cardigan has unmistakeable vintage inspiration, with a chic fit and skinny knit wool. Finished with fifties floral embroidery, this is not just any cardigan.

Rykielsweaters

Warmer weather may be just around the corner for most of us, but that doesn't rule out the room for stylish knitwear in your retro wardrobe just yet. Especially when we're talking about items as stylish as these Retro Sweaters from Sonia by Sonia Rykiel.

The skinny knit tops both start with a slim and feminine silhouette, with a classic crew neck to finish. Ideal for a more relaxed nod to retro style, these jumpers are the sort of item you'll wear with everything.

Available now from Matches Fashion in the UK, they're both priced at £208, with the striped option in two colour choices.

Spotty Jumper from H! by Henry Holland

Henryhollandjumper

It's no secret that British designer Henry Holland's biggest inspiration has long been the eighties aesthetic, a trend that's just as prevalent in his line for Debenhams as in his high fashion designs. This Spotty Jumper from H! by Henry Holland provides an easy to wear look with undeniable 80s credentials.

The oversized, longline cut of the knitwear creates a great retro silhouette, while the scoop neck prevents the look from being unfeminine. The large polka dot pattern also nods to the eighties' love of fifties reinterpretation, while the choices of a primary colour palette provide the bright and bold finishing touch.

It's available now from Debenhams for £35.
