The Stone Roses colouring book by Piper Gates Design
Remember the Joy Division and Syd Barrett colouring books? Both were sought-after items and flew off the virtual shelves. We suspect the latest one will do the same – because The Stone Roses colouring book by Piper Gates Design features this year's nostalgia flavour of the month.
The Modernist Magazine launching this month
If you have a passion for midcentury and modernist architecture and design, you might want to subscribe to the forthcoming Modernist Magazine, although the content is very much focused on the north of England.
The magazine is the work of the Manchester Modernist Society, which organises events around the north of England, focusing on its 20th century art, design and architecture. The magazine follows a similar path, with general articles covering Oscar Niemeyer's Brazil, Esperanto, logos past and original mods, to more specific regional pieces on Liverpool, Manchester and Blackburn's heritage, to name just a few things.
With a foreword by Jonathan Meades, the magazine launches in late June with a launch party in Manchester. But you can pre-order or subscribe now at the website.

Retro dressmaking course at Collette Costello in Manchester
Well, actually, that should be Manchester area, as the course takes place a short tram ride out of the centre at Salford Quays, but it is definitely a retro dressmaking course at Collette Costello.
It's one of three courses being run, the other being a skirt and a handbag course. But let's look at the dressmaking. All course run for a week, with a qualified fashion teacher at the helm, providing the pattern, cloth, equipment and (eventually) the skills to make the dress pictured above. Once you've made it, you should have the skills to convert any other pattern into a wearable dress for yourself or anyone.
The week-long course runs through summer and costs £175, with a hefty discount if you book as a pair.

For sale: Six-bedroom 1930s art deco house in Prestwich, near Manchester
If this six-bedroom art deco house in Prestwich, near Manchester was a football match, it would be a game of two halves. Why? Read on.
It's all about the photos offered with the listing. Details are scarce on its history, the agent simply describing it as 'one of the most individual, presage, detached properties in the Prestwich area'. But a glance at it should be enough to tell you it's an art deco property very likely to have been built in the 1930s, with some very cool original details.
Little Greene teams up with Whitworth Art Gallery for 50s Line Papers 1950s wallpaper range
Not just a 50s-inspired wallpaper range, Little Greene has gone back to source ongoing, teaming up with Manchester's Whitworth Art Gallery to reissue some of the best 1950s wallpapers under the name 50s Line Papers.
The Whitworth Art Gallery houses one of the largest wallpaper archives in the UK, with some real gems from the 1950s. In particular, some of the best were originally produced by celebrated wallpaper manufacturer, John Line & Sons of Southall, London, which are the ones being reissued now.
All the papers are careful interpretations of the original archive documents, both in scale and detail, one of which is pictured above, a couple more captured over the page. Little Greene's 50s Line Papers collection will be launched this month 2011 at Maison & Objet, Paris and then, from the beginning of February, the wallpapers will be available nationally and internationally through Little Greene's network of distributors or direct from the company. No news on pricing as yet – if you're interested, drop them a line.
