eBay watch: Signed Alan Aldridge Chelsea Girls poster

Aldridge

Yes, it's more than a bit pricey, but this signed Alan Aldridge Chelsea Girls poster is an iconic image and one you'll rarely find on eBay.

Chelsea Girls was a 1966 experimental underground film directed by Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey, following the lives of young women at the Hotel Chelsea. It was also the inspiration for Nico's 1967 debut album, Chelsea Girl.

Yet most of that seems forgotten while the poster is still one of the most memorable images of the era. This particular poster was apparently hand-signed by Aldridge in 1970 and according to the seller, has a gallery guide price of £5,000. He is asking £4,500, which seems a bit rich for an eBay sale, but he will take an offer. You can always chance your arm.

eBay watch: 1960s Austin Mini Moke convertible

Moke

If you want to make driving fun again, you might want to invest some of your savings in this 1960s Austin Mini Moke convertible.

It's actually dated to 1966 – and you could probably imagine it taking someone for a whirl round Carnaby Street in its heyday. According to the seller, the Moke has been in 'many film shoots' and 'some James Bond films' and is sold in 'original' condition – although I'm not sure the paint job is original.

The 848cc engine apparently 'starts and runs fine' and there's 11 months of MOT left on it. Of course, it's tax free. Check out lots more snaps of it online, with the price on a 'Buy It Now' for £6,995.

Soulboy – 1970s northern soul film hits the big screen this summer

Soulboy

There has been talk of a northern soul film for years, but 2010 could see at least two on the big screen. Alongside the 'in production' Northern Soul (indeed, ahead of it to be honest) comes Soulboy, which is heading your way very soon.

So, the plot as told to us thus far: 1974. Power cuts, strikes and boot-boy aggro on the terraces. Flares, Chopper bikes and beer at fourteen pence a pint. Joe McCain, 17 and restless, is bored with the flatline tedium of a life that seems like it's going nowhere. Enter Jane, moving to the beat of a music that Joe's never heard, a vision of loveliness who opens the door to a whole world of sound, movement and all-nighter dancing at The Wigan Casino – the home of Northern Soul! Swept along on this tide of pulsating dance and lust, Joe finally finds somewhere he belongs and the acceptance and true love he yearns for.

You can check out the trailer over the page. It's due to hit various cinemas over the summer, look out for preview screenings in your area before the general release. More at the website.

Update: The two-CD soundtrack is now available to buy. You can see the full tracklisting and more details at the Amazon website.

Further update: A review of the DVD is now online, you can read it here.

Starlite Urban Drive-In

Starlight

Always fancied the great American tradition of the drive-in movie but 1) don't live in America 2) don't have a car. Well, the answer to your prayers has arrived with the Starlite Urban Drive-In

It's launching with two nights in the middle of London, at the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane. There are then plans to tour it around the country. One of the best bits for public transport devotees is that the cars are provided. It may not be the Cadillac of your dreams as the event is sponsored by Volvo, but it's a lot less expensive. Roller-skating waitresses selling popcorn are also promised.

The choice of films is a bit disappointing – take your teenage daughter to the Twilight evening on Friday 2 July while Grease is the film of choice on the Saturday.

Booking opens at midday today (Tuesday 1 June) and tickets cost £25. .

Coming soon: 60s-based movie Made in Dagenham

Another movie inspired by the past is heading to the big screen this summer – Made in Dagenham.

The film stars Sally Hawkins as Rita O'Grady who is the catalyst for the 1968 Ford Dagenham strike by 187 sewing machinists which led to the advent of the Equal Pay Act.  Working in impoverished conditions and doing long hours, the women at the Ford Dagenham plant finally lay down their tools when they are reclassified as 'unskilled'. Unwilling to accept it, they take on their corporate paymasters, an increasingly belligerent local community, and finally the government itself.

As well as Sally Hawkins, the cast includes Bob Hoskins, Miranda Richardson, Rosamund Pike, Jaime Winstone, Geraldine James, Andrea Riseborough, Daniel Mays, Kenneth Cranham, Roger Lloyd-Pack, Rupert Graves and John Sessions. Check out the trailer below.
