The design itself dates back to 1947, Charles and Ray Eames produced it originally for a cotton fabric as part of a competition at the Museum of Modern Art. it didn't actually get used 'back in the day', but has since been unearthed and used widely on recent designs, like this one.

It was only earlier this week we showed you Lotta Kühlhorn's jazzy lindyhop coasters. Here's another design from her, suitable for decorating the retro home, these attractive pear mugs.
