New retro mugs from ISAK

Isak mugs

More fun and attractive retro designs courtesy of ISAK's new mugs. Sandra Isaksson's distinctive designs are as bright and appealing as ever, drawing on a range of influences.

The fish mug has a Scandinavian feel and reminds me of the New House Textile 50s herring design jar we featured a little while back, while the flower design has a similar look to all the reworked Fifties florals that have been seen recently. This design is also available on a pink background and, to complete the set, the range also includes a great pea-pod design.

Both mugs are made from bone china and, thankfully, are dishwasher safe. You can buy them for £7.25 each.

Britannia backstamp range from Repeat Repeat

Brt-stmp

Continuing the trend for products that proudly display their British heritage is the Britannia backstamp range from Repeat Repeat

Their bone china is all made in Stoke-on-Trent so, for their latest pieces, they've chosen to decorate them with a design based on traditional Staffordshire ceramic stamps. There's a mug, a teapot, a plate and even a tea towel decorated with the design which uses a crown alongside the words 'Made in England'.

Prices start at £10.50 which will get you either the mug or the tea towel and go up to £46.95 for the teapot.

Andrew Tanner’s Sayings in Stitch mugs

Sayings in stitch

Andrew Tanner has given the old-fashioned art of the sampler an update for twenty-first century with his Sayings in Stitch mugs.

These designs bring together some of the finest British traditions: a fine craft heritage and a quintessentially British saying, combined with the enjoyment of a good mug of tea! Each mug features a different saying, presented as if it has been embroidered onto the mug. As well as the pictured opportunity to discuss the finer points of the North versus South debate, other designs feature phrases like 'Ay up me duck' and 'lovely jubbly'.

The mugs cost £14 each.

Beetle Bug Mugs from Pearl & Earl

Beetle mug

Pearl & Earl have introduced another classic retro car into the kitchen with these Beetle Bug Mugs. You'll probably recognise the style of the design from their VW Camper van mugs that have been around for a while now, but now the VW Beetle gets its turn.

The mugs each feature two illustrations of the car on the choice of 3 colours shown here. Big fan of the design? Handily they've also introduced matching tea towels.

The mugs cost £6.

LSA Rooster mugs

LSA rooster

Like LSA's Zabo vases we featured earlier in the year, you'd be forgiven for thinking these Rooster mugs were an older Scandinavian item. In fact they are another contemporary design by Monika Lubkowska-Jones. The mugs have a folk art look, each mug featuring a slight variant on a basic design of the silhouettes of two roosters.

A set features all four designs, each on a different colour mug, and costs £20.

Ben de Lisi’s 1950s-influenced homeware range for Debenhams

Ben de Lisi mug

Following on from the Jamie Oliver doormat earlier in the week, here's another range of slightly unexpected products: dress designer's Ben de Lisi's homeware range for Debenhams. The whole range is apparently influenced by his love of the 1950s modern movement, resulted in products like the mug pictured above, the 'Blocks mug'. He's also used the same bright colours and pattern on canvas prints.

There's more tableware available too. Shard is another mug, this time decorated with grey and red slants of colour, while the Chatter collection is a white crockery range, each item trimmed or covered with a colourful brick-like pattern.

The whole range is definitely worth a browse, with prices starting at £5 for the mug.
