Ten Great Years print by Max Dalton

Max dalton print

You may remember Max Dalton's name from his great Cocktail party cut-out set we featured a while back. His new design Ten Great Years turns his attention to The Beatles.

It's a very simple concept – he's illustrated the Fab Four through all their musical and style evolution, giving an at a glance snapshot of the sixties. All the iconic looks of the band are on there, such as the Sgt. Pepper's military jackets, their Yellow Submarine characters or Paul barefoot in his Tommy Nutter Abbey Road suit. Yoko Ono even sneaks into the bottom row.

The print is available in a variety of formats and prices, starting at $56.99 for a small print on paper.

1957 AMI ‘H’ Vinyl Jukebox at Pedlars, Selfridges

Swatch_3202_sw_image
Pedlars has just taken delivery of this fully restored 1957 AMI ‘H’ Vinyl Jukebox and it is proudly on display at their concession in Selfridges on Oxford Street. So those of us who can not afford to buy it, can at least lust after in up close.

It is a classic 1950s design with an ‘automobile screen’ and lit pierced chrome ‘bumper’. It is a 200 selection model, playing both sides of 100 records. Although rare, this is not the first of these jukeboxes we’ve featured – we mentioned one back in 2007, that was on sale for £9,900. Pedlars want £16,500 for this one, concrete evidence of soaring inflation if ever I saw it.

If you have that sort of money to spare, you can buy it online at the Pedlars website.

Supplied in a handmade case, it consists of an authorised history by 60 musicians, staff and audience members, illustrated by Woodstock's official photographer, Henry Diltz, unseen photography of Dan Garson, a 7" vinyl record and a fine art print by Peter Max and an authentic Woodstock ticket.

Amazon and Paul Smith both have two copies each in stock, priced £395.

Edit by Edit music genre prints

Edit by edit
How do you graphically depict a musical genre? That was the challenge Edit by Edit set to various designers, resulting in 13 different music genre screen-prints.

The genres selected range from the Twist to Acid House, so there's something for every kind of music lover. Each designer was only allowed to use one graphic element and one typeface, resulting in the restrained type of artwork shown here: Mark Boyce's take on soul and Duane King's depiction of New Wave. With their simple use of shapes and colour, the designs themselves are reminiscent of the work of someone like Romek Marber in the 1960s.

Each screen-print is A1 sized and priced $75. Or, if you're very musically minded, you can buy the whole set for $800.
