Dining at mine is usually a low-key affair and proper napkins rarely make an appearance but Christmas is the one time they might and these Sophisticated Animal Napkins make an interesting change from snowflakes and Santa.

Folk Polka Napkins
Get into the picnic mood with these folk polka napkins.
They're the perfect addition to a summer picnic, even if the weather isn't so hot, and sit perfectly well with a cucumber sandwich or ten. The duck egg blue design goes well with almost anything and the simple 1950s-style design could bring out the housewife in anyone.
For a pack of 20 it's £2 online from John Lewis.
Utterly scrumptious picnic napkins
When you're planning the next picnic in your local park make sure you bring these utterly scruptious picnic napkins form John Lewis.
The design is 1920s-inspired and will sit perfectly with some dainty cakes and pastries and will make any event a little more special. It also fits in with the Royal Wedding mania gripping the country and comes in a pretty presentation pack.
They come in a box of 30 and you can get yours from John Lewis online.
Olli and Lime Kitchen Collections
We’ve featured Olli and Lime’s nursery products here before (duvet covers, wallpaper and wall art) and I’ve always thought their designs are wasted just kept for children. So I’m pleased to see that they expanded to include two of their designs as Kitchen Collections.
George, a lime and milk chocolate flower-like design (pictured here) and Charlie, a darker brown and mustard circles pattern, are both available on a range of kitchen textiles. You can have your napkins (£25 for four) table runner (£35), tea towels (£15 for a pair) and apron (£25) all in matching fabric.
I’m hoping that more products will follow and I’d like to see their range extended to include grown-up sized bedding, but for now, you can buy their kitchen collection from the Olli and Lime website.
Ramblas table linen range from Designers Guild
Think of Barcelona and you'll probably think hot and colourful. That pretty much sums up the new Barcelona collection from Designers Guild which includes the Ramblas table linen.
Reminiscent of some of the 50s designs from the V&A's reissued Horrockses range, the range uses a print of a retro style rose with a graphic black outline contrasting with the bright and vibrant colours used for the rose. All the linen is given a smart green and black printed border too.
Printed onto 100% cotton, the range includes napkins and place mats, as well as table cloths. If you like the design, it's also available on bed linen.
The napkins and placemats are priced at £30 for a set of four of each, while table sets start at £85.
