Flora Dora – textile designs from the 1950s and 60s

Apples

Flora Dora is a new online shop selling the rediscovered textile designs of Sheila Bownas, dating from the 1950s and 60s.

Chelsea Cefai bought the archive containing over 200 designs of Sheila Bownas at auction and has since been working to bring them to a wider market. The store, Flora Dora, begins with two collections: the above print, 'Pip' is from the 1963 collection and is available as a print and over the page is 'Rosa' from the 1959 collection which is available as cotton drill.

Jane Foster London print

Foster-jane-london

Jane Foster's bright and cheerful retro textiles and designs are always a delight, and her new London print doesn't disappoint.

It uses a very simple design to illustrate London: Big Ben, the London Eye and a London bus. The print is enlivened by the application of some of her colourful 1960s/70s patterns to the outline of the objects making London suddenly look like a lot happier place. There's also a similar print available of Paris, showing a Citroen 2CV parked outside the Eiffel Tower.

A 40 x 50cm print will set you back £14.99.

Alexander Girard plate set

Millerhouseplates3
This striking Alexander Girard plate set is far too good to be used for everyday.

It features motifs designed by Girard in 1956 for Georg Jensen when he was asked to produce seven table settings. Just four of the motifs are used in this set, which is produced by the Indianapolis Museum of Art, all instantly recognisable as his style – the pinwheel, patera, garland and hexagon. So stylish, in fact, that I suspect you'd want to use the set for display rather than eating off.

The set costs £38.50.

Almedahls 1950s Belle Amie fabric

Belle-amie-scandinavian-fabric
Another great reissue from Almedahls, this time the 1950s Belle Amie fabric – a 1950s design by Marianne Westman.

If the floral, white and blue pattern reminds you of something, it could be Westman's own Mon Amie tableware design designed at around the same period (and which we featured last year when they introduced it onto some new designs). A classic and pretty pattern, it's bound to add some Scandinavian style to your home.

The fabric costs £19.95 a metre.
