Il_570xN.157583092

This vintage-inspired print of a lomography photo of New York is shot with a Holga camera and gives a retro-looking soft finish to the picture.

You can buy a print of the photo, entitled "New York City looking downtown" which was shot with a Holga CFN toy camera. The camera creates a dreamy lense and was taken with a Delta 2300 film to enhance the grainy quality of the photo.

Lo-Fi – retro photo effect application for your PC and Mac

Lofi

Recently, we featured an article on the best vintage camera apps for the iPhone. But what about photos you've already taken on a camera? Well, now there's Lo-Fi.

It follows a similar principle to the mobile apps, but operates on your PC or Mac to offer retro effects for existing photos. You can mix a wide range of effects from the film world, such as grain, colourful cross processing, lens blur, light leaks and frames. Combine more than one to create something unique. You can even hit a button for random effects, if you can't be bothered tweaking.

Along with editing, there's also easy sharing via Flickr and Facebook and if you want to try it out, there's also the option to try for free. If you like, the full download sells for $29.

Angelheaded Hipsters display at the National Theatre

Angelheaded-hipsters_336fZs3OR

Fans of the Beat Generation should try to check out the new Angelheaded Hipsters display at the National Theatre, London.

The title for the show comes from Allen Ginsberg's infamous poem Howl and the display, organised by photographic agency Corbis, features prints made from images in Ginsberg's archive. Mainly snapshots taken in the early 50s, together they create a fascinating insight into the scene and feature images of the likes of Jack Kerouac, William Burroughs and Neal Cassady.

If that captures your interest, you may also be interested in an event the National Theatre is hosting on 19 Feb. Subtitled 'discovering the beat movement', poet Michael Horovitz and Barry Miles, co-founder of International Times and Ginsberg's biographer, have been invited along to discuss the lasting influence of the Beats.

The display is free, while the event costs £5.
