Silk Festival of Britain cushions from RE

Silk festival of britain cushion
Just last week we featured the Minimoderns festival rug, now here's another object inspired by the same event – this silk Festival of Britain from RE

It's the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain which is being celebrated this year. This design is inspired by a vintage silk scarf and shows a suitably jubliant city scene. The scarf is backed with a contrasting silk fabric to complete the vintage feel.

The cushion costs £55.

Sanderson 150th anniversary Skier cushion

Sanderson skiier
Last year was the 150th anniversary of Sanderson and we featured many of the products produced as part of their celebration, including the range of cushions produced using some of their textile designs. Their range has also expanded beyond this, to include designs based on ephemera in the Sanderson archive, such as this skier cushion.

The cushion is based on an invite to an early Sanderson bash and also features an appealing illustration showing a skier against a wintery background. There's no year given on the invite but it looks like it dates right back to the early days of the company. If you like this, there's also another design based on an Edwardian design for the company.

Made from linen, the cushion costs £35.

Harlequin Pod bed linen

Harlequin pod

There's a definite 50s influence at work on the Harlequin Pod bed linen collection.

It's a bold and colourful design that seems to have been filtered through both Orla Kiely's stem design and the Sanderson Dandelion Clocks for inspiration. A plant like form in aubergine, lime green and gray works runs up the duvet cover and pillows. That's coupled with a stripe design on the reverse of the duvet to make the design really stand out.

Pillowcases are priced from £17 upwards, while the duvets start at £55 for a single duvet.

Olive Lucky Clover cushion by Maria Hatling

Olive lucky clover cushion
This Olive Lucky Clover cushion looks like a vintage fabric but in fact it's a contemporary design, just one from the collection of designer Maria Hatling.

Maria used to work as an in-house designer for Orla Kiely and you can see the same use of great retro patterns in her work, offering different colourways across her designs – this cushion is also available in pink for example. And it's not just cushions as you can also purchase prints and tea towels featuring her designs, all well worth an investigation.

Made from a cotton and linen mix, the cushion costs £55.

Brie Harrison Vintage Rose cushion

Brie harrison cushions

For a funkier – though still retro – take on floral designs, take a look at the work of Brie Harrison, such as her Vintage Rose cushion

Harrison is a Suffolk-based print designer and illustrator. Here she takes the very traditional floral motif of the rose and depicts it in a manner reminiscent of 1940s/50s pattern designs. However, the overall look is given a contemporary twist by the fresh colours of the flowers which really stand out against the black background. Take a look also at her Folk flower cushion, a design with a more 1970s feel.

Each design is available printed onto a linen or satin cover. Both come with a goose feather and down filling. For a cheaper option, the designs are also available on gift wrap and as cards.

The cushions cost £55 each.
