Sir Peter Blake: Twenty Years of Printmaking in Harrogate

Blake

A regular around the capital, Sir Peter Blake is seen much less 'up north'. So the Sir Peter Blake Twenty Years of Printmaking exhibition in Harrogate, Yorkshire is well worth an entry in your diary if that's where you live.

It takes place at the RedHouse Originals Gallery, 15 Cheltenham Mount, Harrogate from 12th March – 10th April, with previews on Friday 11th March. Sir Peter will be there for that to open the exhibition, as will the double decker CCA Art Bus with Blake exterior. There will also be the unveiling of a new portrait and print edition called Boogie For Stu, featuring Ian Stewart, the legendary keyboardist and co-founder of The Rolling Stones.

The Beatles Colour Chairs

Eiffelbeatlescolour
As well as reproductions of iconic designs, Base Classics offers a custom pop art range, which includes The Beatles Colour Chairs.

The shape of the chair is inspired by Eames’ Eiffel Chair, but rather than having a stark white seat, the face of a Beatle is imprinted against an acid bright background. There is the option to have the design printed on the back of the chair only (£250 per chair) or on both the back and front (£325 per chair). The price per chair is reduced if you buy two or more to £175 and £250 – and with this particular design, it would make sense to buy four.

For further details, visit Base Classics.

Tretchikoff-inspired Green Lady print by Stan Chow

Green

If you don't want to pay the constantly-inflated prices that the original goes for these days, you might be interested in the Tretchikoff-inspired Green Lady print by Stan Chow.

The originals do indeed go for a price, especially when you consider it was bargain basement art – one here on eBay  is priced at over £237. This print is a print inspired by Vladimir Tretchikoff's midcentury gem, with Chow adding his own pop art twist.

Sized at 13 x 19 inches and printed on 100% Cotton Matte Archival 315gsm paper, you can pick it up for £20.

Sir Peter Blake unveils Vichy series of limited edition screenprints

Blake_vichy

We're always happy to see a new set of screenprints by Sir Peter Blake, with the latest one going by the name of the Vichy series.

It's back to the collages for Blake, with the series including The Butterfly Man, Horseshow and our favourite pictured above, A Convention of Comic Book Characters. It is just that, including the likes of Dennis the Menace, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, Charlie Brown, Linus, Desperate Dan, Lord Snooty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Invisible Man (if you can see him), Green Goblin and many more.

This particular print is in an edition of 125, sized at 393mm x 380mm and as you would expect, signed and numbered by the artist. Not cheap at £1,750, but Blake prints, especially ones based on popular culture, are always a good investment.
