eBay watch: 1970s Hornyphon 2623 portable record player

Horn1

Apologies for featuring another portable record player, but some great designs keep cropping up – which this Hornyphon 2623 portable record player is.

Let's look at the design first, which offers the three-speed record deck, contras for balance, tone and volume and a choice of battery and mains power. Oh yes – and those cool dimpled speakers, which provide stereo sound, then pack back into the deck when not in use, so you can carry it all round like a small briefcase. Very stylish. See an image of that over the page.

Condition? According to the seller, it's 'hardly used' and 'very well-tended', with 'a very few fine and slight scratches on the outside, caused by storage'. Still some time to go, £1 is the current bid price.

eBay watch: 1950s Marconiphone valve-based portable record player in ‘mint’ condition

Marc1

A long title, but hopefully it tells you more or less everything about this Marconiphone portable record player currently on eBay.

It's a stunning thing, described by the seller as a 'timeworn' and in 'as new' condition – over 50 years on, that's something. The case is in a two-tone pastel design, while the deck plays 16, 33, 45 and 78 vinyl through its valve-based audio system.

Even as a piece of design, it's worth mentioning, but it's a practical item too for vinyl lovers. See a shot of it closed up over the page, with the price currently at a bargain £29.99.

Boombox Speaker for iPhone and iPod

Boombox

Technology is a funny thing. We're desperate for the next big thing, but as soon as it comes…we're nostalgic for the technology that's been dumped on the scrapheap. But there is a middle ground – this Boombox Speaker for iPhone and iPod for example.

Yes, that's right – old school looks meet new school technology. Compatible with all generations of iPod and iPhone, just slip in your Apple device (see how to do that over the page) throw out those vintage grooves via the 12w speakers within.

There's also an alarm and sleep function, accurate real time clock display, separate bass and treble controls, USB flash drive and SD/MMC card compatibility, a remote control and the option to use batteries or mains. £255 secures you one.
