50s-style lounge chair by & then design

&then chair

Looking for some alternative mid-century seating, away from some of the most famous designs of the period? Try this lounge chair from & then design. Like the company's Leigh cabinet, it's an up-to-date take on mid-century style, in this case specifically inspired by Scandinavian design of the 1950s.

The influences are clear but there's enough unique touches here – such as the brightly coloured upholstered seat and the sharp lines of its arms – to make the chair an attractive and distinctive design in its own right.

The chair costs £830.

50s-style Scandinavian homeware at New House Textiles

Orchard

You don't need to buy vintage to get a vintage look – check out the all-new, 50s-style Scandinavian homeware at New House Textiles for a stylish midcentury vibe.

There are several collections available, all taking inspiration from Sweden in the 1950s and taking in the kitchen, the living room and the dining room. As just one example, the Red Orchard design offers up that eye-catching leaf print as an oil cloth above, but also offers it as pot stands, trays, chopping boards, cushions and even fabric, if you want to make something yourself from it.

Check out all the ranges at the website, with prices vartinh according to your choice of item and design. But as a quick guide, that oil cloth is £17.50 per metre, while a cushion on the same design sells for £20.

Sanna Annukka at nineteenseventythree

Sanna combo

We've featured many of the designs of Sanna Annukka previously on this site, both her products for Marimekko and things she's put out under her own name. Here's a new, affordable way to buy her work with the nineteenseventythree range.

Greetings cards are the first products from the range to be released but it'll eventually include wrapping paper and postcards too. As evident from the cards shown, the designs all display Annukka's trade mark retro folk style, using the bird motifs we know so well. The cards are all made from 100% recycled consumer waste and use gold foil to add an extra bit of glitz to the otherwise restrained colour palette of the designs.

The cards cost £2 each.

Fika cups new at ISAK

Fika cups

Regular readers will know that we are massive fans of the Scandinavian retro stylings of ISAK, so a new product is always exciting. And here are the Fika cups: two small handle-less cups used for drinking or snacking, or just looking nice!

The cups come in a set of two. One cup is decorated with a 'Familjen' design, featuring heads of people in a similar style to their Blossom and Bill range, and the other is covered in a 'Harvest' food-inspired design (which reminded me of some of the rediscovered 1950s designs we've featured from New House Textiles).

Another great addition to the ISAK collection, they come in an attractive presentation box and cost £18 for the pair.

Retro Scandinavian Katt greeting card from Tea and Ceremony

Cat greeting card

Cast your mind back to last month and you may remember the pretend Swedish posters from Takashi Furuya. Well, this Katt greeting card has a similarly retro Scandinavian look, right down to the name, but it's actually made by Manchester company Tea and Ceremony

Take a look at their Etsy store or their own online shop and it's full of equally charming designs: there are similar cards available featuring a hen or a squirrel – or should that be 'hona' and 'ekorre'?

You can buy the design shown as a notebook for $7.50 while the greeting card costs $5.

Roddy & Ginger Christmas stocking

R&G christmas stocking

The countdown to Christmas begins in earnest tomorrow. There's always lots of tempting ideas for gifts on these pages but how do you collect together all your gifts in a suitably retro style? Perhaps this Christmas stocking from Roddy & Ginger can help.

It's a simple white stocking printed with a bird motif, one of Scandinavian folk-art designs that Roddy & Ginger do so well. The stocking is available in two colour combinations – either red and pink or chocolate and blue – and is printed on cotton, though they will make it in linen for you on request

And, very importantly, at almost half a metre long there's lots of space for your presents inside.

The stocking costs $26 from their Etsy store
