Hans Wegner influenced Bojne chair from Ikea

Bojne

We recently showed you Ikea's Stockholm floor lamp, which looked like it had been influenced by the work of Arne Jacobsen. Their Bojne chair also looks like it has taken its cue from classic Danish design, this time the work of Hans Wegner.

Specifically, the distinctive shape of the chair back is reminiscent of Wegner's CH20 design for Carl Hansen & Son, also known as the Elbow chair. That chair was designed back in 1956 but only went into production a couple of years ago.

Austin swivel chair from Dwell

Austin chair

Fancy getting yourself your own Bond villain style swivel seat but are on a bit of a budget? Take a look at the Austin swivel chair, new at Dwell

This design is part of their Autumn collection which is currently previewing online ahead of its arrival into shops in August. As you'd expect from Dwell, the collection draws heavily on 60s and 70s influences, not least this chair which looks like it could have come straight out of a late 60s pad. This is the look on a budget, however, as the chair is upholstered in faux leather, with a stainless steel swivel base.

Due in stores on 11 August, the chair costs £299.

Casalino chair by Alexander Begge for kids

2009-143_3

We featured the Casalino chair a while back, when it started being reproduced again using the original moulds, but did you know that there's also a kids version of this Alexander Begge design

Yes, this classic piece of space age design is available sized for children. These chairs are also made using the original moulds, dating back to the 1970s. It shares its shape and material with the grown-up version so also shares some of the designs practical advantages: it's suitable for outdoor use and is stackable.

The kid's version comes in two sizes, take your pick from 'Junior' or 'Toddler' depending on the size of your offspring.

The chairs cost £88 each.

Surpil SL10 chair by Julien Henri-Porché

Surpil_01_500

The Surpil SL10 chair designed by Julien Henri-Porché has a long history, dating back to 1927, but came from a very practical need.

It was designed foremost for functionality: suitable for use in public spaces and also able to be stacked. Made from metal, the choice of material reflects the need for practicality. However, the chair still manages to look elegant and worthy perhaps of something more than outdoor furniture.

The price would suggest so too: it costs £228.

AR001 chair from Assembly Room

AR001_08
Another contemporary design that looks to the past, this AR001 chair from Assembly Room looks to the utilitarian designs of the 1950s.

The straight lines of the seat contrast with the splayed wooden feet of the chair, creating a striking, retro, and, most importantly, an inviting bit of seating. The chair is upholstered in pure new wool, available in a wide range of colours.

Assembly Room is the work of Peter Wall and Cathy Spooner who have produced a small and perfectly formed range of furniture: you may want to check out AR006 too – that's the table pictured alongside the chair.

Prices for the chair start at £995.
