Chill Sofa range at Heal’s

Chillsofa_mMore mid-century style courtesy of the high street, this time the Chill Sofa range at Heal's

With its straight lines and boxy shape, it's got something of the look of the Florence Knoll sofa. This sofa is given a leather finish, including the luxurious sounding 'Suede soft' leather option. With a soft back, seat and arm cushions, it sounds like this is a design that will be comfortable as well as looking good. The look is finished off by the dark-stained wooden legs.

The version of the sofa pictured costs £2995 or you can buy a smaller version for £2595.

Buttons Chair by Steuart Padwick

Buttons chair
Looking to invest in a future classic with a retro feel? You could take a look at the Buttons Chair by Steuart Padwick

As you'd expect from his work, he's given a twenty-first century twist to a twentieth-century design. The chair is made from a solid wood frame, and has a sprung seat and feather cushion for your sitting comfort. The finishing touches are the oak feet, the wood tops to the arms and the oak 'buttons' that go all the way through the back and arms of the chair.

Decided to consider investing? Well, the chair costs £995 for upholstery in your own fabric, or £1395 for the linen and leather finish pictured.

COAL Design Horrice Chair

CD_horrice_1large
The Horrice Chair was created by COAL Design in association with the Hidden Art Shop for this year’s 100% Design event. So in that respect, it is very much a new design, but its shape is very much in the mid-century style.

Its frame is made from interlocking sections of Walnut veneered MDF, whilst the seat is upholstered in wool in a choice of colours, including the unusual lemon yellow option pictured here. The back cushion has four buttons in a contrasting colour, a sweet little finishing touch. The chair is made in Sheffield with all of the materials sourced within Yorkshire.

The Horrice chair costs £599 and can be ordered through the Hidden Art Shop website.

Liberty print stools

Liberty stool

This Liberty print stool is an interesting take on a classic design.

It’s got the shape of a classic early twentieth century stool, with wooden seat and metal legs. However, the primary attraction lies in the Liberty pattern which is printed onto the seat. There’s four designs to pick from all in a classic Liberty style. Pictured is the Caesar pattern, an idiosyncratic peacock feather pattern.

Each stool costs £80.

Linea Grace chair

Linea grace armchair

This Linea Grace chair is another mid-century style design courtesy of the High Street.

An elegant piece of design that doesn't immediately give away its age or provenance, it's a classic wingback chair with padded seat, all upholstered in a green fabric. This retro look is completed by the darkly stained conical legs. All-in-all it's a design that states mid-century Scandinavian.

Luckily it's a Summer 2010 sale bargain, as this is currently reduced to £249.
