Boundary sideboard designed by Steuart Padwick at Made.com

Boundary sideboard

The advantages of made.com's manufacturing policy are made clear by Steuart Padwick's Boundary sideboard. With a great take on mid-century style, it's interesting to compare it to Padwick's Coast sideboard, which looks very similar but retails for about five times the price.

Of course there is disadvantages too. Partly that you have limited choices in the finish: it's only available with either the walnut veneered doors pictured, or with grey doors. The main disadvantage, however, is the wait for it to be manufactured – it will take approximately 10 to 14 weeks from your order to its delivery.

However, the price is pretty persuasive – it costs either £375 with the grey doors, or £399 with the walnut doors.

Housesideboard_m

The Heal’s House range includes this Sideboard designed exclusively for the store by Leonhard Pfeifer.

It has been designed to work well in smaller rooms, measuring 113cm wide x by 45cm deep. Heal’s describe it as being perfect for modern living, but being a walnut sideboard, it inevitably has a certain mid-century look to it.

The sideboard costs £495 from Heal’s.

Coast sideboard by Steuart Padwick

Coast-Sideboard04-550

Here's an attractive contemporary update of an everyday classic object courtesy of Steuart Padwick's Coast sideboard

The pleasingly chunky design looks back to mid-century designs but is brought into this century by the splash of colour on the two cupboard doors. Although the website states that you can get the doors in almost any colour, including a matching wood, the two options to order online are either the green pictured or a purple pair.

If you like the look of this, there's a chest of drawers, dresser, dining table and chair to follow in the same series.

The cost reflects the twenty-first century design credentials of the piece and would set you back £2245.

eBay watch: France and Son 1960s Danish sideboard

Sideboard

If you're after a well made sideboard with plenty of functionality and more than a touch of style, can we direct you to this France and Son Danish sideboard on eBay.

According to the seller, this dates back to 1964, the work of Ole Gjerlov-Knudsen & Torben Lind for Danish form France and Son and is made of teak, including the finished back, should you want that exposed.
Plenty of storage from the two cupboards and central drawers, with plenty of surface space too – 174cm to be precise.

A few bids already in, but £66 still sounds a bargain to us.

eBay watch: Hille midcentury sideboard by Robin Day

Hille

If the seller's description is to be believed (and to be honest, we don't know for sure if it's correct and there's little evidence offered outside of the seller's opening statement), this is a Hille midcentury sideboard by Robin Day.

To be fair it does have the look of other similar sideboards we have seen, but as ever with large designer purchases, it's always buyer beware. Saying that, it's a stylish unit, made of teak with black enamelled doors, aluminium handles and three internal adjustable shelves within the 6ft unit.

Described as being in 'good vintage condition' with 'only a few surface marks consistant with age', you can bid for this midcentury piece if you have £500 to spare.
