John Lewis midcentury-style Rigby sideboard

Rigby

We featured the dining furniture from the range yesterday, but while we were digging that out, we also noticed this similarly-styled Rigby sideboard at John Lewis.

It's new in at the store (in fact, it's actually on pre-order), once again inspired by midcentury Scandinavian design, supported by those splayed legs and constructed by in solid American oak that's veneered to create its distinctive look.

Plenty of storage within (see over the page for it open), with a price tag of £499 if you want one.

eBay watch: Gordon Russell teak sideboard

Gordon

If you browse through contemporary design books and magazines from the 60s and 70s, you'll see the name Gordon Russell as much as the more familiar Merrow Associates. But it's a brand that hasn't really picked up interest in the modern era, despite the quality of the items the company produced. Which means something like this Gordon Russell teak sideboard can be picked up incredibly cheaply.

Dating back to the 1960s, it offers up that teak construction, three storage areas (one large, teo smaller that include drawers) and the company's logo so you know it's the real deal. One scratch on it, but according to the seller, it just fades into the grain.

So if you need some functional, well-made, vintage-style storage, it is worth a look – especially with that current £1.24 price tag. Yes, you read that right.

It's called the 'Stockholm retro' sideboard and the name explains exactly what it does: reproducing Scandinavian mid-century looks for the twenty-first century.

It's one of Stockholm retro range available at Frances Hunt, which also includes chairs, a dining table and coffee table, and is worth a browse for mid-century style on a limited twenty-first century budget.

Denelli Living Kido sideboard

Kido sideboard

It's hard to identify the specific style that most influences the Kido sideboard from Denelli Living. Though it's a contemporary design, it manages to be a bit Deco and a bit space age. Whatever your opinion on this, its high gloss finish with silver circle motif on the doors is undeniably glamorous.

Denelli Living have similar cabinets, wardrobes, nightstands and dressers available so you could carry the look across your whole bedroom. They also come in many other colours than white, including red, black and gray gloss, which could alter the feel of the piece completely.

This sideboard costs £399.
