Knap midcentury-style sofa bed by Per Weiss at Heals
Form and function come together perfectly with the Knap midcentury-style sofa bed by Per Weiss, which is available at Heals as part of its celebration of Scandinavian design this Autumn.
Anfibio Sofa Bed
The Anfibio Sofa Bed is something of a cult classic, first being produced in the early Seventies and selling more than 31,000 since.
When it was first produced it was upholstered in tartan, denim or leather, fashionable fabrics at the time. Of those, only leather remains an option today, along with a plain fabric, but it still retains its Seventies look thanks to its slouchy laid-back appearance. Unlike a lot of sofa beds, this actually looks comfortable enough to be your regular sofa too – which is a good thing given the hefty price tag.
It costs just over£3,000 in fabric or an extra £1,200 for leather. Buy it online at StyleStore.
eBay watch: Ercol Studio Couch / Sofa Bed
Regular readers will recall we featured the Ercol 1950s anniversary Studio Couch range, offering the classic sofa range with some bright new finishes. That range started at £1,685, but this Ercol Studio Couch on eBay is currently going for a lot less.
It's the same design, the work of company founder Lucian Ercolani and originally launched in the late 1950s. This is probably a fairly recent reissue, described as being in 'solid' condition and in 'light elm', with a few marks and scratches from wear. The upholstery may or may not be original.
But saying all that, it looks like a decent option if you want to spend a little time cleaning it up. £36 is the price as I right, with the seller also offering a couple of matching armchairs in a separate auction.
Yoko retro-styled sofa bed at Made.com
I like the idea of Made.com – the company cuts out the middle man by getting a group of people together who want a certain design, get it made to order, then ship the item out to you for a cheaper price. It takes longer than nipping down to the shop and getting one, but if time is on your side, it's worth considering. Especially with designs like this Yoko sofa bed.
It's a sofa bed with a 1960s twist. Stylish and indeed functional, it has a pine frame and leather upholstery, with the option to use as a sofa or flick out for a guest bed. Two colours currently available, cream or black.
If you want either, be quick – the company is only taking orders for just over two days. If you do sign up, you'll get it for the discount price, which is £149.
